My name is Rachel and I am a double ostomate... How did that happen? Well... I
was diagnosed with stage 1B cervical cancer back in April of 1981... During the
hysterectomy to remove the cancer some nerves to my bladder were severed
rendering me totally and completely incontinent. .. A year and a half later... I
had my ileostomy... THEN as a result of the radiation therapy I received I began
to develop fistula's which basically means that the walls of my intestines were
weakened to the point of where they ruptured spilling all kinds of bacteria into
my abdomen causing me to experience sepsis... I nearly died twice... In 1994...
I was given a colostomy and much of my intestime removed... Since then I have
been plagued with severe skin breakdown around the stoma causing me a great deal
of pain... I have a wonderful ostomy nurse who helped me to find a solution and
I am now "stable"... I am educated and trained as a paramedic and a very easy
person to talk
to and get along with... It kinda goes without saying that I will be here to
help a fellow ostomate if and when I am needed... And would like to extend an
invitation to any of you who would like to add me as a contact... In the
meantime... Take care...

Rachel...
