Re: [peoples with ostomy2] Re: Hello

I've had my ile for 30+ years started w/ a build your own type appliance which
worked well until they no longer made them. I now use a hollister premium pouch
w/ an Eakin Seal. They come in couple different sizes and are like a gasket. I
was averaging about a week w/o the Eakin and a different type of gasket but w/
the Eakin I can almost get 2 weeks depending on what my activities are. They
have a layer of paper on each side that before I pull them off i warm between my
hands to make more pliable. After I've change my appliance i usually lay on my
stomach with my hand where the stoma is. Helps to get a better seal.  Good luck
hope things start to turn around for all.

i had trouble getting the wafer to stick to my skin. the brand is: ZEASORB-AF. i
get it at walgreens. it dried up all the soft & bloddy areas & allowed me to
resume my activities. a nurse at our local hospital told me about it. i was
contimplating surgery to move the stoma to the other side. there was no
guarantee that it would be better. im so glad i didnt do it. thanks for the chat
sight, im going to try it. huggggggggs Jim

Hi again Jim,

Ann here. I'm curious now, you say that you had problems with the wafer sticking
to your skin, does that mean you could not get it to stay on or you could not
get it to come off?

What is the brand name of the foot powder you used or still use? I'm sometimes
amazed at what some of us ostomates come up for solutions to certain issues that
we sometimes have.

Have you ever heard of a website called "meetanostomate dot com"? It's another
site where ostomates and go and instant chat with other members online and post
a profile of themselves and maybe even meet local ostomates as well.

Hope you're doing well in Indiana and staying warm. It's still winter here in
Connecticut and the weather is proving it!!

Stay safe and warm. I look forward to hearing from you again.

Ann

Hi Ann and Joe,

I am glad to see some ppl corresponding on here. I am Jacy, one of

the group moderators. Alot of us on here are just busy with our

lives, and can be thankful that we can be. To Ann, since I

eavesdropped on your note to Joe...I have had my ileostomy for 26

years from UC. I had many problems my first 2 years with it, but not

all related to the ostomy. I too believe that God saved my life so

that I could help others and my ostomy is a part of who I am. But I

have a bit of other news for you...my sister had her ileostomy when

she was 14. (I was 20). Gail, my sis, has had many problems with

hernias, and now has some trouble with a kinked up bowel that keeps

closing and then opening after meds and IV fluids. She could

definitely relate to your situation. She had not joined here, as she

just doesn't get on the computer much. That is all for now, but

wanted you both to know that you are not alone, and keep us posted.

Jacy
