Hi Deb,
I would say that it is normal, if it doesn't last long. Until
recently, I did not know that adhesions can "break loose" and cause
some pain. An adhesion is something that forms after one has major
bowel surgery. Basically, it is regrowth of tissue around the bowels
that the surgeon disturbed when he needed to get to your bowel during
surgery. Some times adhesions will grow in weird places and that is
why they can cause bowel obstructions. They will grow around a piece of
bowel and kink it up. But what can cause occaisonal short lived pain
is an adhesion tearing away from the inside wall of your abdomen. A
little bleeding can occur inside, and that causes some pain. Your body
will absorb the blood, and the pain will go away. Also, the pain you
are describing could just be your bowel moving. It may be that it has
to move around a corner when you sit, so the bowel is not completely
open at that moment. Getting up and moving should help. Also, gas
pains can cause excruciating pain, and getting up and moving is the
best way to get that going through also. By all means, go see your Dr.
if it gets worse, or last for longer than 2 or 3 hours. Use all the
usual cautions for yourself, when taking pain relievers.
Sorry I didn't respond right away.
