I useEakin seals right now. I cut the large ones into 6 pieces, and use one
piece each time that I change. I hold it under my armpit while I remove the old
appliance, and then it is warmed up. Then I remove the papers over it, and roll
it like a snake. I put it around the wafer, instead of around the stoma,
because I have wasted a couple if my stoma "moves". Lately, I have been using
more wafers too. The weather, the humidity, and all the fresh fruits and
veggies contribute to my wear time. As for the size changing, a 1/4 inch is not
much, and the seal will help with that. It looks like it changes size because
there is peristaltic movement in your bowel, and that changes the size. I have
had my ileostomy almost 25 years now, and I am still learning. I have recently
had to cut down on my Immodium because my diet fiber increased, and if I layed
on my back at night, my stool was so thick that when it moved, it didn't go into
the bag. It just stayed where it was, and eventually it came under the wafer.
I have also tried the Hollister equivalent to the Eakin seals, and seem to like
those better. Right now I am just trying to get my Eakins used up. Eakins come
in a small size also, and I cut those in 2 pieces. Sorry if this is more info
than you wanted. Hang in there!! You are still here, and God needs you to help
others. Don't get discouraged.
