Re: [peoples with ostomy2] Welcome to the New Members!

Hi Larry and all ostomates:

Just saying hi and wanted to add another note here
with regard to having an ostomy at a young age. I know
it is very difficult to deal with, especially when it
occurs in the early teen years. It is hard at any age,
actually, but there are so many great appliances on
the market today, and so many great products to help
with skin problems, as well as products to deal with
odor. Speaking for myself, and for some others that I
know of, having had surgery in the late 50's, we all
know there was next to nothing available with regard
to pouches, actually only one 'rubber' appliance that
had to be stuck on with surgical cement, and nothing
at all to help with skin problems or odor. All of this
to deal with at the 'age of dating'and I did not know
anyone who had one, other than myself. I am NOT
saying it is easier now to deal with an
ileostomy/colostomy/urostomy or all of them at once,
just saying, there is so much more to help one deal
with it. I feel very lucky to have been married, had
three children, and have grandchildren. For anyone who
is having a hard time coping, please know that it will
get easier, and you are definitely not alone. There
are a great many of us, and all over the world. Stay
cool...and in touch.

God Bless,
Love, Cathy
