Most people overlook their grip but it is just as important if not
more than most other training.
Think about it,most that you do whether you are a
bodybuilder, powerlifter or strongman involves your hands and forearms.
Great ways to train grip are:
1.Grippers like the Captains of Crush
2. One handed deadlifts using implements like the Rolling Thunder
3. Thick bars like the 2"- 3"
4. Famers walk using regular and thick handles
5.Blobs
6. Hub handles
And many more.
You can do reps or holds for time.
Just remember that your grip can overtrain just like everything else
so dont overdo it.
Dont forget about the Mass State Championships on July 23rd in
Revere,MA. It will be a great time for all!!
Best of luck to our own Dan and Pat who will be competing.
Every world class athlete knows that it all starts with the mind. That
is why most use creative visualization as a means to reach their
goals.
To start, begin by finding a quiet place where no one will disturb you
including phones. Then either sit crosslegged on the floor or find a
comfortable chair.
Next begin to focus on your breathing and close your eyes. Breathe in
filling up your
abdomen 1-2-3 and then breathe out 1-2-3.Some find that a metronome
helps with your rythym.
Now picture a white round sphere in front of you.See it clearly.
Now see it change to the color blue, then orange, then green, then
red,then yellow and finally purple.
Take a few moments on each color and make sure that you see it
claearly.
It takes time but these are the beginning steps.
More to come.

Yes it is now confirmed.Shayna has set a NAS record for the 18"
deadlift,LW Women division.Shayna pulled 365lbs at the Stronger Than
All competition in New Haven,CT on March 19th.It went up so easy that
she could have pulled closer to 400!
WAY TO GO SHAYNA!!!
It has also been confirmed that our very own Dan Gilbert placed 3rd in
the HW men (266-300) division.
WAY TO GO DAN!!!
More and more gyms nowadays carry at least a few strongman implements
but if yours does'nt and buying your own is'nt in the cards then here
are a few ways to train.
Farmers walk- use dumbbells and find a good space to walk back and
forth with (use a bench to pick them up off of if your back is an
issue).
Farmers hold- again use dumbbells but hold them for time standing
still.(use a bench to pick them up off of)
Deadlifts-every style
Squats- every style
Trap bar- great for deadlifts and shrugs
Shrugs- use barbell, dumbbells or trap bar
Overhead press- use a barbell on a squat rack or on a gun rack and
practice doing push presses and split jerks (you can also use a fat
bar if you have access to one.
Clean and Jerk- practice cleaning and then utilize a rack to practice
pressing
Grip work- utilize everything from fat bars, grippers, blobs or you can
pick up a hex style dumbbell from one end and hold for time.
More to come!
Congratulations to our very own Shayna FitzGerald. Not only did
Shayna win FIRST PLACE in the LW Women division at the Stronger Than
All contest in New Haven,CT but she placed FIRST in every event!!!
WAY TO GO SHAYNA!

mass, get fit or train for strongman/woman.
In order to gain mass and strength you must recover from your last
workout. For most three day a week of training is sufficient for
recovery.I have found that ou must allow at least 48 hours between
workouts or overtraining will eventually occur.
1.Exercise properly using good form, intensity and allow enough time
between workouts for recovery.
2.Be on a positive caloric intake.
3.Spread your daily calories out over 5-6 meals a day.
4.Supplement with proven supplements like:
Protein (1 gram per pound of lean body weight per day),multi-
vitamin,omega-3,amino acids and creatine.
(Be sure to take your multi-vitamin with food or your body will not
absorb it properly)
5.Drink plenty of water (Around a gallon a day for most).
Just wanted to say hello to all. I've been a competitive strongwoman
since last summer. Made it to the nationals and will try again this
year. I'm training for a competition in March, in Conneticut. Should
be a good show.
Also, I am a massage and neuromuscular therapist. So if anyone ever
has any chronic pain or acute injury questions, feel free to ask and
I will try to help.

Yes for FREE! Flipping heavy tires is a great way to gain strength no
matter what your goal is and the best thing is that they are free.
Big tires cost companies money to dispose of so call your local scrap
yard, excavating business or industrial tire company and get yourself
one (Or two). Most can even find out the weight of the tire for you as
well.

Static stretching before working out is actually counter
productive.Static stretching causes micro tears which will decrease
your strength for your workout.
The best way to warmup is to walk on a treadmill or ride a bike for
10 - 15 minutes to raise your bodies temperature.
-Nathan
As most know, deadlifts and squats are a great way to gain strength
and mass but most know nothing about exercises like the farmers
walk. The farmers walk may be one of the best exercises for gaining
strength and mass. For best results do them once a week for three sets
at around 50 feet per set.
Start with an easy weight and end with a weight that you can barely
wak 50 feet with.
Pics coming soon.
