I hope all works out for you.My daughter Gabrielle(16 months old)has yet to
experience anything like that.So far, everyone seems to be fascinated by her.We
live in Orlando,Florida but as big as Orlando is,I have yet to run into any LP'S
here.Except one time,at the local Walmart when I was shopping for diapers. But I
know that our time to be tested will come, and I hope I am strong enough for
her.I am not really worried about her confidence level, but I am worried about
how cruel other children can be.

I think it's wonderful that we have the internet - so that parents
like us can "meet" other parents like ourselves from so many places
around the world! It certainly makes the world a lot smaller doesn't it?
Jeremy is the only LP in our town (of about 5000) but in the nearest
"big" town to us, Whangarei, there are a few others. So Jeremy gets to
see other LP's albeit infrequently. And we do the National Conference
every year.

But I see it in a different way. I think everyone one goes through
issues at every stage of life whether normal or special. But as
parent our sensitivity for special kids is of course a little higher.
As Jan in the email below rightly said that we need to build self
esteem in all our kids. But its easier said than done as we also have
our esteem issues. We need to be confident ourselves before we can
can teach them. My little one Zuraiz is now in 5th grade and like
Ami is going to a normal school. Some days are harder when kids make
fun or remarks but he has learned to make a close group of friends who
have accepted his condition and treat him as equals. And then those
friends became protective of him. Now that helps him alot. And I call
these close friends and keep an update of whats happening at school.
You need to work on to make a close group like that. It helps.

him normally before you expect everyone else to do it for him. Tell
Ami that he has a friend in Dubai too. Let me know and I can arrange
a conference call.
