Description

The Panniculitis Support Group is for people with Weber Christian Disease, Erythema Induratum, Erythema Nodosum, Lupus Panniculitis, Subcutaneous Sarcoid and various forms of Panniculitis.
Panniculitis is an inflammation of the subcutaneous fat or adipose tissue and not a surface skin rash. It usually shows itself as very painful lumps or nodules under or at the surface of the skin and appear pink or red and eventually black and blue. Additionally, they may be suppurative, i.e. they drain an oily substance. The suppurative type of nodule is difficult to treat since it leaves an open wound that needs lots of special care in order to heal. Sometimes fevers, pain and debilitating fatigue are involved with Panniculitis. There are many types of Panniculitis and all are very rare.
Doctors seldom see a case of Panniculitis. It may show up during a routine CT scan or associated with another disease such as Lupus Panniculitis, or as a reaction to a medication such as birth control pills. There is little research on Panniculitis and to-date, with the possible exception of some forms of Erythema Nodosum, there is no cure.

This group is dedicated to enabling affected members and their families to learn more about these rare inflammatory diseases and to exchange information, resources and mutual support. Health professionals are encouraged to join this list.

There is a new group called International Mesenteric Panniculitis Society for those with Mesenteric Panniculitis (aka Retractile & Sclerosing Mesenteritis, Mesenteric Lipodystrophy). With M.P.there might be nausea, cramping and perhaps vomiting, in addition to the fatigue.
