Can anyone guide me or opine as to whether DVT can be traumatically induced? Client stepped out of burning vehicle onto melted running board with his right leg, his leg went under the vehicle and his right knee hit the ground. Also suffered 3rd degree burns on right leg. Developed DVT of behind his right knee and pelvis within 3 weeks. Up to that point, his right knee was in great pain but thought it was merely a sprain. The accident was in late July 2003 and DVT discovered early August. He has presented numerous times to emergency for pain related to DVT. The pelvic problem has resolved but the DVT of leg has progressed. Doctors are considering surgical intervention at this point but, unfortunately, client has a myriad of other problems stemming from HIV and the attendant meds that he is taking for the HIV. All kinds of indications and contraindications. HELP!!!
Thank you in advance!
