that Lee J. Carroll participated in the UN DIsability Convention Meeting Wed.
Dec. 3. It was also so wonderful too that she and Tina Minkowitz met and talked
both at the Meeting and the persons with disabilities exceptional Art Show. All
the following observations are perforce paraphrases/reactions and it['s best to
consult 'the original.'
>
>Tina's Panel remarks were re crystallizing and clear and touched on human
rights and general values concerning all persons with Disabilities or perceived
disabilities of any sort. The Panel was spectacular. Some notes on all the
Speakers will follow. We also joined up with Theresa - a terrific
happens-to-be-woman part of the UN for some time; a separate post will mention
our joint interests shared with all of preserving/conveying a history of these
themselves historic meetings. And I wish to thank Professor Sloan who initially
made these connections happen.
>
>Such bountiful activities and growing networks are not now just beginning but
well underway - and we hope that all here are considering coming to UN
Headquarters/NY at some time in the future for these meetings - (and of course
but with emphasis we continue on the Internet and these links are golden).
>
>We can talk about these matters individually or online, but you will be happy
to know that people came to Lee and her book on 'A Pained Life', like a magnet.
>You may recall how deeply I feel that persons who are over- and under-
responded to have much in common to shoulder, and can with particular mutuality
come to know freedom and justice - as all participants in these activities
endeavor to have happen and are achieving. . With "mental and emotional" issues
there can be such intrusive boundary invasions and capturing within walls; with
people in physical as well as psychic pain there can be such excluding avoidance
and boundary evasions that people are imprisoned alone, within walls. Which
can be true with any disabilities or perceived disabilities but here may be
focusing as ectypes (instances of archetypes). I believe it was Steve Estes who
emphasized once again and with focusing merit: Nothing AboutUs Without Us.
RESPECT. No condescension, no hyper-management, no welfare, no distancing, no
separate Life tracks.
>
>So, It is such a great pleasure for us all to stimulate at the Ad Hoc meetings
themselves, and in between, this awareness of the vitality of people with
chronic and severe pain and here worldwide; and what people with pain (pwp)
share with people with disabilities (pwd) in general - and many with pain
disabilities and allies do show recognition and want to connect. Invisible NO
MORE!
>
>It was personally very rewarding also, and I believe those of us who clustered
had a real good time.
>
>(Said from the Panel, close to this, by G. Quinn: '(in the past) people with
disabilities have been citizens but invisible citizens.' Plainly - NO MORE! ).
>
>:) Best wishes, LDMF.
>
>(And back to Ed Caraway soon also - just read the magnificent post re the Art
(Posters) by persons with disabilities we aim to introduce to the people who
support the artistic expressions. And we shall. The UPS had not arrived
(checked several times) but and these opportunities are just developing and will
expand. It is good to have these arrangements in place. And vibrating with
energy).
