Dear All,
As you can see from the poll, I am one of the people who has been
put forward as the future trainee representative. As such, I
thought a (brief) description of what I see as the important issues
may be helpful.
Firstly, I think Liam has done an excellent job in setting up the
(www.paediatricsurgerytrainees.net) website and this group, and I
would continue and expand these resources.
Secondly, the EWTD and Modernising Medical Careers will have
profound implications for the way we work. I support the recent
stance of the BMA negotiating committee (working towards a
definition of "inactive on-call" time and moving the requirement for
compensatory request from before the next duty period) as I feel
that may help us to move away from full shift rotas that include a
week of nights. I also think that Modernising Medical Careers in
its current state is unworkable when applied to paediatric surgery
given the complex nature of the emergency work we face. I would
hope to persuade others of this point...
Finally, I would of course listen to the views of you, my fellow
trainees, hopefully at the national training days but with increased
input from the regional reps and via forums on this website.
Thank you for taking the time to read this far,
Richard Lindley
Sheffield
P.S. Vote for me!
P.P.S. If elected I promise to go to every training day I can,
drink too much, go to a nightclub and dance badly. Preferably in
that order.
