Hi
You may remember I posted a message last year regarding how to claim tax back on
Loupes.
I finally received a cheque yesterday!
The initial form was completed and included details of the purpose of the
loupes. Then an eon later I received a cheque excluding the tax refund for the
loupes as they said my employer should provide equipment.
I wrote and appealed on the following grounds:
They are essential to my job.
I am a trainee and not in a long term post. My employer will not provide such
expensive tailored equipment for someone who may only be working there for a
couple of years.
Plastic surgery were successful in claiming for capital allowances and published
this in the British Journal of Plastic Surgery and I enclosed a copy of this
reference.
Armstrong AP, Caddy CM. Tax allowance for surgical telescopes. BJPS
1997;50(8):666
The tax man then wrote to my employer.....who they wrote to I've no idea but
they had no reply and in the meantime I phoned them and suggested that my boss
should write to them as the pay department wouldn't know what Loupes were.
So hope that helps.....It sounds like it's variable but persevere, it's worth
it!!
