You can only claim for soemthing that is essential for
your job. Ususally they will argue that if they are
essential then your employer would provide them. Try
emphasising that they need to be custom made and therefore
for you only. Also , if they are a replacement then you
have a stronger case than if they were the first pair (I
am not sure why but it applys to textbooks too, you cannot
claim the first time you buy one but if you update to a
new edition then you can).

Hi Richard I managed to get tax back on loupes quite a while back - I just put "keeler loupes" on the expenses bit and said no more and they coughed up. So...
