dear ian
I have worked in Belfast Manchester and London consortium. I think Belfast is a great place to rotate to for training, it would make sence to link it with manch-liverpool. I don't think lodon is too big, because you only do one satelite.

Dear All,
The DoH have issued an open letter to doctors in training
about ST appointments next year. Thsi is avaiable on the
TRIPS site under "News". Any one applying should read it,
as should any one who is asked for advice by people
applying. The letter promises more information on numbers
and anticipated competition ratios soon but it seems
likely that there will be more applicants than jobs, just
as always. There has been conformation that all
appointments to "run-through" training WILL be honoured
and that there will be an additional ten places at ST3 in
paed surgery in 2008.
We have had one nomination for the post of BAPES rep, if
any one else is interested please could you express this
by the end of this week to either of us.
Lastly, the response to the question of the structure of
the consortia generated only 2 responses, both advocating
the principle of training in at least 2 centres which is
very useful. There was no response on the structure and
grouping of consortia. How would people feel about
rotating to Belfast for example if it were linked with
Manchester and Liverpool or Glasgow? Where do people think
Newcastle should fit in? Is the London consortium too big?
The SAC will be discussing this on Friday and we would be
grateful for your input to what we take to that meeting
on your behalf.
Iain and Clare
