Re: [paediatricsurgerytrainees] Re: Nominations for the next trainee representative

I would like to stand as a candidate for the position of Trainee Rep. I was asked to describe my aims.

If appointed as a representative, I hope to address issues that affect the training of current and future registrars. There are the well-recognised problems caused by reduced working hours and dilution of experience. I would like to consider how RITA assessments could be improved. I would like the relative merits of each consortia to be more apparent to prospective trainees. Current NHS reforms are important to Paediatric Surgical trainees, as they will have a significant impact on training and on subsequent appointment to consultant positions.

One particularly pressing problem is the impact of the new immigration laws on colleagues from non-EU countries. I am not sure how best we can influence this but would be grateful for comments.

I hope to be involved in the setting up of a web-based document that would detail accepted ways of managing common or important paediatric surgical conditions. I would envisage that Paediatric Surgical trainees, with a particular interest in a topic, would author the document in conjunction with their trainers and experts from other centres.

I hope to be able to represent the interests of Paediatric Trainees if elected and would value your support.

Hi and sorry for the delay in posting,

So far one brave soul has been nominated for the new trainee rep.  I
will wait a couple of days to give anyone else a chance to come
forward (to at least give the vote the semblance of democracy)
before closing the nominations/announcing the result.

Regards

Richard
