Hi Lisa,
there are a number of 'courses' that trainees in Paediatric Surgery are
expected to attend:
1) BAPS 4 times during 6 years training
2) SpR training days (?number, I think it is supposed to be at least 6)
3) Surgical basic skills course (first 1-3 years of SpR training)
4) Management course in last 1-2years
There are other courses which are very useful, but are not compulsory (I
think these should be compulsory in the future given decreases in exposure
and length of training):
1) Oxford Neonatal surgery course
2) Cambridge Urology course
3) Basic Sciences course (Birmingham)
4) BAPS trauma study day
5) BAPS oncology study day
6) Laparoscopic course (Leeds course run by Mr Najmalden is very good)
7) Pena anorectal surgery course
There are other courses, and this is a far from exhaustive list.If others
on this group would like to rectify any obvious ommissions I would be very
pleased.)
Best Wishes,
Liam McCarthy
