BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE

The Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine is offering a short course on “Basic Life Support” Training being conducted by the British Healthcare Consultants and Trainers, based on the British General Dental Council’s core ethical guidance booklet ‘Standards for dental professionals’ and associated supplementary guidance.

Medical Emergency Training for the Dental Team

Aims and Objectives include recognition of the sick patient, management of common medical emergencies and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation including the use of an automated defibrillator.

Course Content:

·        Medical risk assessment in general dental practice

·        Emergency drugs in general dental practice

·        The ‘ABCDE’ approach to the sick patient

·        Common medical emergencies in dental practice

o       Asthma

o       Anaphylaxis

o       Cardiac emergencies

o       Epileptic seizures

o       Hypoglycaemia

o       Syncope

o       Choking and aspiration

o       Adrenal insufficiency

·        Clinical scenarios and practise of skills

Assessment & Certification:

Candidates will have practical assessments during the course in a low stress environment to instil confidence in all candidates and will be given a certificate of completion by the BHCC&T at the end of the course.
