Overweight ... May not be your fault
Overweight? Maybe more than Diet & Exercise?
Maybe an Autoimmune Metabolic Problem ... from a chemical exposure
|
My thoughts restated:
I met a nurse practitioner who was pretty outstanding. She commented that the epidemic of obesity in our country must be more than just diet and exercise. Something else must be going on.
I shared some thoughts on the harm of 2-butoxyethanol (n-butyl ethers) since WWII and that the baby boomer generation & on could have the 'birth defects' from it such as Syndrome X, Type 2 diabetes & many autoimmune issues & other metabolic dysfunction.
With this chemical, I also note metabolic problems that early on can cause removal of gall bladder (liver not metabolizing fats right) and some years later, kidney stones which can also be from a metabolic problem associated with the thyroid. (this chemcal affects the pituitary, all glands + kidney + liver)
For those with their own direct exposures, I believe you get the fatigue & other symptoms that are commonly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or more correctly CFIDS Your doctor may look more into what's going on with the immune system and the red blood cells and find that the red blood cells are small (does this mean immature??) Autism, can be a birth defect in children of these. It is said to be autoimmune and a metabolic problem. I was looking up info on it, and that's what I found.
Lou Gehrig's Disease seems to be autoimmune. You would have to have an extreme amount of exposure to 2-butoxyethanol to come down with something this severe, but that is the only thing one VA office reports as the gulf war syndrome vets having more of than the general population. Not that this chemical exposure is the only cause of such ... but I would like to know whether Lou Gehrig had exposure to it. He could have, you know.
MS is autoimmune. Parkinson's appears to be autoimmune. I have some questions
I believe the headaches are possibly autoimmune, too. And that they can lead to brain tumors of the pituitary & behind the eye. CDC only started tracking brain tumors in 1977
This seems to be the tumor causing chemical, so I suspect it for causing the soft tissue sarcomas that the Vietnam vets 'for sure' came down with. Also a for sure is Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I've seen this cancer in some of the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup workers, too. (These have known exposure to 2-butoxyethanol)
Research - Detailed MSDS - Retic info for Doctors When they say in this "other maternal effects' are they talking about breast cancer? If so, some of these breast cancers may be autoimmune and either birth defects from parents harmaed by the EGBE chemicals ... or they got direct exposure themselves.
A man shared with me that they are seeing breast cancer more in young athletic women these days. They have not seen this group affected in the past & don't understand it.
Intro to immunology
I'm sure 'gulf war syndrome' vets can't believe this, but officials in the medical field, state that the 'gulf war vet' was no more harmed than the general public.. This is a sad state of affairs. And, still they don't know what caused their harm (now up to 28% of the 700,000 force?). And although this chemical is on the list of solvents and pesticides the gulf war troops were exposed to ... it has not been looked into. Best I can tell ... it causes all the ailments they talk about ... all by itself.
The administrator at gulf warvets got tired of my having an answer for everything they were wondering about ... and banned me from that forum May 9, 2004. That was the very day bluehawk invited me to the start of what became www.politicalplace.com and later www.trackpads.com where they each gave me my own thread: 'Dear Maggie's Thread'. She cancelled most of my posts in April & some others, but kept 107 of them on the forum ... plus the thread they gave me here

I'm talking about CFS, CFIDS, 'gulf war syndrome' Look up the rest of the symptoms that can go along with the harm of 2-butoxyethanol

Check more in hormones & immune system
"Autoimmune Addison's disease is characterized by chronic and insufficient functioning of the outer layer of the adrenal gland. The adrenal glands are located atop each kidney and produce vital glucocorticoid hormones. Because of this chronic under-functioning of the adrenal glands, persons with Addison's disease have a deficiency in the production of glucocorticoid hormones. Glucocorticoid hormones are involved in how the body utilizes and stores carbohydrates, protein, fat and blood sugar. "
I suspect this AUTOIMMUNE DYSFUNCTION is more common that realized. How do you get doctors to check for hormonal levels of your glands ... and whether or not the immune system is overactive (as in autoimmune) vs underactive (as in nearly burned out)?
I've been looking for what to check out, because with the EGBE chemical exposure that is very common, it goes undetected until a 2ndary ailment - gets the 'blame'

Hmmmmm, it definitely makes you stop and think. So much of this information relates to me: I lost my gallbladder in 2000, have had kidney stones, am type 2 diabetic, suffer migraines, depression, unexplained twitches, chronic pain in abdomen, and joints that they can't or won't find an explanation for....
BUT, even if I took all of this information into the doctor, I can tell you the look I would get and the response. As an obese female I have honestly had some vicious treatment and attitude over the years from medical practitioners. I have cried when I see morbidly obese and obesity constantly brought up in my records, because I know I HAVE tried and tried again to make a change to my weight. Do these problems help make that any easier no, but I haven't even let that fully stop me. I push on and still sit at 275 + pounds for years at a time.
Should I submit to their brilliant idea of gastric bypass surgery, when my abdomen has been opened so many times I have no muscle strength within it? Should I spend money for something that may or may not work, and could kill me or seriously disabilitates me? I don't think so, and yet I can't help question the idea.
Anyway, I realize I just ranted, but it is frustrating being a woman, overweight, and chronically ill. ![armcross http://www.theladiescafe.com/smilies/armcross.gif]()

And do you have fatigue?
... and the assorted symptoms of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (whether diagnosed or not?)
Yes, I know the look you will get. But doctors don't offer much hope for many of the ailments they treat ... or shall we say, the symptoms they suppress with drugs.
Someday soon, I hope, the doctors may start taking a serious look at a chemical that could be the cause of many of the things we are talking about.
Sounds like you have enough of the pattern to ask for more info, next time you go to the doctor. (Don't expect the doc to think of these things ... or know what they mean)
If you have fatigue, when did it start ... ? the fatigue that rest doesn't help with? What did your parents do for work? Did you have a relative who was in WWII forces?
Personally, I'm not going to take glucophage to stop my liver from making sugar as a solution to Type 2 diabetes. And I do believe that there will be help with glyconutrients
Also note the conversations of some of the doctors on this topic
Ah, yes, if we could just get doctors interested. They are the missing link. Research is done on what this chemical does, but doctors don't recognize it.

Do I have fatigue?????????????????? Ah yes!!!! I know it is not a joking matter. I have spent since 2000 in and out of doctors, fighting them, taking tests, being cut open, being told I'm fat and to deal with it.
My father is a Vietnam vet, both of my grandfathers were WWII vets. My parents worked in a factory and mental health facility when I was very young. Were house parents for a group home from age 9 through adulthood. My father is an alcoholic and smoker. My mother is bipolar and obsessive compulsive.
We can fight and fight, and I agree we have to educate, but regardless, in some places we just won't get the results needed. With the HMO's of today, one is lucky if they have the same doctor for more than a year. Gone are the days of family doctors that know you all. And while family practitioners are an excellent thing, they also can't handle all things ... both my husband and I have been told we must see an internal medicine doctor.

Most likely - Not your fault
OK, then, you can find this fatigue.
Make you 'request list' and get some extra things checked ... and the doctors will find it: small red blood cells, most likely ... overactive immune system ... trace blood in urine ... just ask them to do the test to look for autoimmune hemolytic anemia.
But I think you would have to have your own direct exposure to have this fundamental thing going on.
I must share, that I believe the Vietnam vet and many in WWII who were health affected, would be from this chemical in rocket propellants & in the mix of the dioxin mix ... I suspect it was the n-butyl ethers, not dioxin that harmed our Vietnam vet
This is a teratogen chemical ... so the children of these, are at risk for singular health effects that this chemical causes ... and then we can get our own direct exposures very easily.
I suggest you get copies of all your blood and urinalysis info. And see what is 'normal' for you. Be looking for some of these things
