Re: [Ostomates Support] Surgery

Hi Raji! Just to say hi and wish you the very best with your surgery. I too
had colon cancer and have a colostomy. Chemo is a very doable thing and you
should do well. I also had 6 weeks of radiation but it wasn't so very bad to go
thru. Sounds like your doctor is very up on everything and your attitude is so
good. That is a very important thing! Please keep us posted about how you are
doing. I care very much and you will be in my prayers. The PET scan is a
wonderful thing and it can tell your doctors so very much. Now you and your
doctors know where the cancer may be and they will know which kind of chemo to
give you and for how long. Medicine has come such a long way for all of us.
Keep your chin up and know that I wish you the very best.Paula Rose

greetings, how are u all? I would like to share my problems with you
all if you have any suggestions for my surgery and recurrence of
tumour again on my colostomy area on the left.

The PET scans and the Colonoscopy were clear. The CT scan (of the
chest/abdomen/pelvis) revealed that there was a small nodule in the
left lung (size – 1.1cm by 0.9cm). It is not sure whether that is
cancerous or not. I have an appointment with Dr. Robert Downey, a
chest surgeon on Tuesday, May 6 to evaluate that. There are also
couple of spots on the vertebra (which have been seen in earlier
scans) and we have scheduled a whole body bone scan on Friday, May
2nd.

Separately, the tumor in the abdominal wall is about the size of a
walnut and needs to be removed by surgery. The colostomy may need to
be moved as part of this surgery. Dr. Wong is available for surgery
on June 10th and her pre-admission tests are scheduled for June 4th.
I will need to probably stay in hospital for a week post surgery and
will need to stay in the US for about 3-4 weeks after the surgery for
recovery. `

Chemotherapy will probably be required after this surgery and can be
done in India. Radiation is unlikely.
