Today just a little bit on Hampsters.
The most common type is the Golden Hampster which weighs in around
120 to 150 gm, is about 18 cm long and lives for about 3 years. And
their country of origin? Well, they were discovered by the British
Zoologist George Waterhouse in 1839 in Syria.
They are widely used as laboratory animals as they provide a
paticularly good test model in cardiovascular research as their
system is very similar to our own.
In temperatures less than 5C hampsters can go into a form of
hibernation. So if your pet hampster appears to have 'fallen off its
perch' after a very cold night, try warming it up slowly before you
get out with the pick and shovel, doing the headstone bit.
Though Golden hamsters are the most common type, one can get the
Roborovsky's hampster, The Rummanian hampster, the short dwarf
hamster, the striped hairy foot Russian hampster, the Tibetian
hampster and the Chinese hampster. No Eliose, there is no such thing
as the 'Christmas hampster.' ( Stupid girl!)
And despite all their cuteness hampsters, like the rabbit, are
coprophagic. This is a 'disgusting' feeding habit which which I would
rather not explore further at this time.
Cheers till next time,
