I would recommend that the child be seen by a good child neurologist. I like the staff at Emory. It will be easier to get in at a neurologist office most likely and medical insurance will usually pay a large portion than my next suggestion ... the child needs a really good evaluation. A child psychologist can perform the assessments to find out what is going on and give good recommendations. Also, Dr. Roy Sanders is a child psychiatrist at Marcus Autism Center. He is on many insurance plans and sees children who are not on the autism spectrum. He is extremely well respected and could give this family direction on how they needed to proceed. I learned so much from him after one visit and continue to use him for several of my children. Seeing a psychiatrist / psychologist is usually covered by a different "part" of the insurance plan (worded as behavioral services, metal health, etc, depends on company). These services often have their own deductible and larger copy. Feel free to contact me if I can offer more info or forward my info if the parent wants to talk to another mom who has gone through the evaluation process.

Subject: [opengaautism] Stimming
First of all, I am very new at this type of forum. Question: My daughter has a 7-year old niece by marriage who is constantly stimming and is extemely obvious to everyone around her. Is stimming a sign of austim? Should this family be concerned?
