“AUTISM 101”
Free Seminar and Resource Fair
for Newly Diagnosed Families
Saturday, September 29, 2007
Go to www.stonemillchurch.org for directions.
Autism 101 is a quarterly seminar and resource fair sponsored by the Autism Society
of
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The seminar provides information that educates,
enables and empowers these families as they begin the journey of caring for, planning
for, and treating their child. There is a resource fair immediately following the
seminar for families to meet and interact with local providers of autism related
goods and services.
Discovering your child has autism can be an overwhelming experience. “Autism, now
what?” is likely the first reaction all parents have following an autism diagnosis.
This time can be a difficult one, full of confusion, anger and despair. Then after
the shock and disbelief wear off a bit, parents learn that, unfortunately there
is no single approach or accepted protocol in the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Parents are desperate for answers and are often left to their own devises to plan
for their child’s complicated needs.
“Autism 101” provides concise, down-to-earth information to help parents make sense
of it all. The seminar presenters answer many commonly asked questions and gently
guide parents through the myriad of medical and educational options, social services,
therapies, etc. The resource fair allows families to meet and interact with local
providers of autism related goods and services, thus enabling them to expedite the
coordination and implementation of treatment options and services for their child.
