Contact your Representative today! The HCV bill will be read in
the Senate, May 19th.

HOW? Email this to muhammad_sayed@... and
as many congressmen and senators that you can today. Be sure
to include the name of our movement so they know we stand
united.

From Hepatitis C's Movement for Awareness

Dear Senator Kennedy:

My name is             , my address is:    , Phone:     .

I live with HCV on a daily bases.

I am pleading with you to please reconsider any reference to HIV
in the current Hepatitis C Act before you.

Passing this bill will not be in the best interest of Hepatitis C
patients and families.

If a structure must be established under a preexisting disease,
please let it be diabetes, 1 in 10 of our people have this disease.
That's half a million people.

Under the current CDC Hepatitis C Strategy plan, already
approved by Health and Human Services, general practitioners
and specialist will not be made aware of the effect HCV has on
diabetes and other diseases. Many will remain undiagnosed
until further complications set in.

Another devastating effect will be on our Military Veterans that
were processed through health clinics where universal
precautions were not in place, let alone heard of before 1992.
The CDC does not recognize service, for any war, as a risk
factor. This leaves millions of veterans thinking they are safe
because they did not get a blood transfusion or use IV drugs or
paraphernalia. The rate of infection is 10% among military
veterans or an estimated 2 plus million people.

There are 450,000 Veterans expected to develop
cirrhosis/cancer now. Please help us! (1)

The majority of HCV/HIV people are dying because of HCV liver
failure. The majority of HCV people, millions more with diabetes
and other diseases, die because of liver failure, heart attacks,
suicide and  kidney failure. NOT HIV.

Liver Failure is the 6th leading cause of death in the USA.

Hepatitis C is NOTproven to be a sexually transmitted disease,
either. (2) Yet the need to place our disease into this category
shows the manipulation of our great government by certain
groups to save established federal programs, NOT for the needs
of people with this disease.

We are not blind, sir, and hope that you will see this move for
what it actually is.

HIV has no place in the Federal Hepatitis C Bill unless this bill
includes all diseases resulting from HCV infections for treatment
and prevention. HIV is the least of the many other diseases
affecting our HCV patients with a "stigmatizing" impact that will
keep many uninformed of their infection.

Yet, HIV alone, is the focus of the HCV bill. Passing this bill will
hurt many more people than it will help.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.

Respectfully,

(Your name here)
