I am 24 years old and for some reason i am really worried that
huntingtons could be in my family and that i am starting to develop
the disease.
My mum and dad are both 44 years old, my mum's mum is 63 years old, my
mum's dad is 67 years old, my dad's mum is 68 years old and my dad's
dad died aged 70 from cancer.
If huntingtons was in my family wouldnt have someone in my family
already have been diagnosed with it?
I am worrying because over the last few weeks my memory does not seem
as good as usual, my thinking and spelling is not as good as well.
But i have not been getting any abnormal movements or personality
changes or anything like that.
I was wondering if someone my age did develop huntingtons i would
imagine it would progress faster than usual? and i would die within
5-10 years max?
What are the chances of a genetic mutation? i read on the english nhs
direct health website that in 3% of hd cases there is no family
history of the disease.
I know that there are 65 million people here in england and only
4,800-6,500 people have hd was seems very little i know but i am
really worried.
Obviously i would not be able to have the genetic test as there is no
history of it in my family, but i have heard of cases where it has
struck out of the blue where people were not aware that it ran in
their family.
The only person in my family that has died young is my mums sister who
died aged 32 from cancer.
I would really appreciate some advice on this matter.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope to get some
replies soon,
Thank you again.
