Dear Alison ,
My Grandfather and my Great Uncle died of complications
from Huntingtons Diease, I never new them. My mom died when I was 8 years old
from complications of Huntingtons Disease, and now I have 4 sisters who have HD.
HD has made it so I never got the chance to know my Grandfather and My great
Uncle, it also left me with a mother at an early age. I watched my mom suffer,
and now I watch my sisters suffer everyday, slowing making them the shell of the
person they used to be. They are all in nursing homes, no longer can they
walk, talk, bath, dress, brush their hair, teeth, everything most people take for
granted. My brother refuses to get tested, and he has 2 children. Then my oldest
sister has 4 children all having a 50% chance of getting the disease. My sisters
names are Debbi ( age: 49 ), Cathy ( age: 45 ), Barbie and Bevie(twins, age 38
). My brother's name is Biff ( age: 47 ), and my youngest half sister, her name
is Skye, She has a different mother, so shes not
at risk. She is 34 yrs old. My name id Dori, Im 39, and Ive bend tested and I
don't have the bad gene, so Im not at risk.
Having HD in my family is like an never ending nightmare, watching my sisters go
thru pnemonia after pnemonia, choking, vomiting, stitches, staples, broken
bones, 24/7 shaking, sitting watching the ones you love go thru all this and
feeling forever helplessness... Thats where havig a strong faith in God, is the
most important thing, thats what has got me thru the toughest times. God is God,
and I am not, I will never understand it all, for only God is God, thats from
Steve Curtis Chapman's CD. I truly believe that. Never give up on your faith,
and hope for a cure, as long as I live and breath, i never will give up, and
will always be there for my sisters. If you have any questions, or you just want
to chat my email address is dori_34@....
God Bless you, and may he keep you happy, healthy and safe.
Your friend, Dori

Hi my name is Alison and I'm 19 years old. My maternal grandmother
has suffered Huntington's for as long as I can remember and I am
beginning to see some of nanna's early symptoms develop in my mum who
is 44- although she is not yet diagnosed. I am interested to hear
from others whose families/parents/children have been effected by
Huntingtons and how.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
Alison
