I agree with Michelle. You won't be on prednisone forever (hopefully) and you need to be sure that you're not going to flare again once you start tapering off it. If you wean off pred and there's nothing else in place to maintain control over the inflammation (Asacol, Mesalamine enemas) you're likely to start back at square one. Just my 2 cents.
I have been taking 3 Asacol 3 times a day for about 3 months as well as the Mesalamine enema at night. And the last 4 days i have stopped. We were out of town and I forgot my meds. My pain has gone from an 8 to about a 1! I don't have any bleeding, mucous, or diarrhea. And I am less tired. Im still taking 30 mg of Prednisone once daily. Should I stop taking the Asacol permanently. My Dr is out of town for 3 weeks and I have an appointment with Dr. Hernandez on June 19th (the soonest I could get in). All I know is that I feel so much better. But I don't want to do anything that is going to cause the UC to be worse. Does anyone have any input??
