Hi Jean!
My sister is right, I LOVE my new Doc. His name is Jay Diliberto and he is in Huntington Beach. He has given me more answers in the last 2 weeks than I got in 5 months with my previous doc. Great bedside manner and a genuine compassion that I find security in.
As for GERD, I know that drill. My baby and my 3 year old both have it and have had it since birth. I have it as well. I am on Zegerid which I really like and the doc says I can take Prilosec OTC if I dont want the prescription. My kids are both on Prevacid and seem to be doing really well on it.
A few pointers if you really suspect GERD, that have really helped here are to not eat 2 hours before bed, no acidic foods or drinks, drink malts and smoothies that are thick because the thicker the better, do not lay flat at night (we have both the toddler bed and the crib
mattresses elevated at an angle and I am up on pillows) and for babies they say pacifiers but for adults- chew gum. Gum will neutralize the acid in your tummy and keep it down.
I hope that you can get some meds that work. The Zegerid has really helped me. I was coughing up blood a few weeks ago mine had gotten so bad.
Prayers and blessings to you and your family,
Amy

I believe I may have GERD, or something like it, and would appreciate
any recommendations for an "adult" GI. (Plus, I'm due for another
colonoscopy in '07 (family hx of colon cancer before age 50), and the
surgeon who did my last one lacked the finesse that I'm told GIs
usually have when it comes to endoscopic procedures (I remember
screaming out in pain despite being knocked out -- and yes, they did
confirm this)).
So being the bowel experts that y'all are, please steer me in the
right direction. I prefer physicians who respect my intelligence,
answer my questions in a straightforward manner, and address my
concerns without being patronizing. Oh, and someone who can maneuver
their way through my bowels without puncturing or otherwise causing me
great distress.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jean
