I need support from those of you who have gone
through this. I am somewhat of a pioneer in my
geographical area, as I have never found anyone who has had
WLS. I have to travel 8 hours to my doctor and
hospital, and I am concerned about being able to have
necessary follow up visits after I have my surgery. ( I
live in the wilds of Northern Michigan) I would
appreciate hearing from anyone, thanks and good luck to you
all.

Hi Phil,
I am a 46 year old female from
Michigan. I have my initial consult on mon. 6/25, so I am
very excited. I have to travel 8 hours to get to my
doctor, so I am really commiting myself to quite a big
deal here. I don't know where all of this will take
me, but, it will be interesting. Good luck in your
endeavor. You have so many good years ahead of you, I wish
you the best of luck.
Yoop3646@...

Hi,
I am an Army wife also, but been retired
for 13 years. I really dont have any expectations
about this surgery, I am praying to lose weight and be
a healthier person. My concern was how weak I feel,
but I had a very diffcut surgery, there was a lot of
repair work done, and I am no longer a spring chicken,
so my recovery is going to be longer, and I wasnt
prepared for that, but I am okay now and taking it one day
at a time, my weight loss is unbelivable to me, I
had my four week post op and was down 35 lbs. I never
dreamed I would lose so fast.Best of luck .
Carolyn

It's sounds to me like you're going through what
many post-op patients go through. I haven't had the
surgery, but a friend who has had it said she went through
the same kind of stage. She couldn't believe she had
done that to herself and she should have tried just
one more diet. Twenty pounds is actually very good. I
checked my calculated possible weight loss on AMOS and it
said I should probably lose 27 pounds in the first
month. So, 20 pounds in the first 3 weeks is not bad at
all. Just stick with it and you'll see that you're
melting away.........

You have got to be kidding, 20 pounds in 3 weeks?
That is great. Why in the world would you expect
anything more. It is really silly for you to be so down
about having the surgery after only 3 weeks of results.
I'm not sure what expectations you had going into
this but it seems that they may have been way too
high.

the way she is. Maybe in a year after I start living
normally again she will realize this is the best thing for
me to do. Anyway antime you want support just let me

I know this message is a couple of months old but
I am brand new today and I have to say you stated
how I got to my current weight perfectly. I've been
riding the yo-yo train most of my adult life only to
gain twice as much as I lose each time. I am in the
process of trying to get an initial visit with a surgeon
who is backed up for 9 months so I have quite a wait
ahead of me. My primary care physician will only let me
go to this particular surgeon as she says he is the
very best. I just have to trust her judgment and pray
for patience. Anyway I am happy to be a member of
this club :-)
Doe

Bariatric Surgery? I'm looking to have it
done, but there isn't alot of detailed sites out there. I
need info on how it works, not that same BS "this will
change your life" and that's all the info you get. That
maybe, what it does, but I am looking for more info than
that. I am going to see a doctor soon, but I would still
like to know what to expect. So if anyone can help me
please contact

An excellent place to start is at this
website:
www.obesityhelp.com and then click on "public entrance enter" then
click on the link for Association for Morbid Obesity
Support. Anything you want or need to know you can find at
this website, there are literally THOUSANDS of
members, some pre-op, some post-op. It also has before &
after pictures, and weight-loss diaries or journals of
people who have had weight loss surgery.

Carol:
wow.. so weird.. my best friend's name
is Carol, I'm almost 33, and I love cross
stitching.. lol.. anyways, I saw this doctor for my surgery,
and he was kind of a jerk. I think he was trying to
get at why I wanted this surgery and if I was really
serious. I AM serious.. I'm just a little scared. It's
kinda like giving up your "blankie" when you are a
little kid. You don't know what the world has to offer,
and you tend to play it safe under our "blankie" of
fat... Christ I need help! I hate this body so much I've
even been tempted to cut the fat off with a butcher
knife thinking "the insurance will HAVE to cover my
medical bills cuz they'll HAVE to stitch me up from
this.." That's how bad it's been for me lately. I don't
want anything to do sexually with my fiance', and I
think he's starting to get a little miffed at me. I
just can't live like this anylonger. I just want to
know what having this surgery is going to do to my
life.. anyone have a crystal ball?

Jess

go on like this any longer.. I hope I can get the
support I need in this club. Thanks for
