carlene,

wow 9 pounds seems like so much in 12 days.I am happy for u.I also know some
people whom have had the rny and have done great at it.I decided to go for the
lap-band for pretty much the reasons u mentioned.my ins. will cover either
procedure under my policy as well.I have a 3 yr old daughter that has OI or
better known as brittle bone disease..does this run threw your family?hers was a
new mutation..no one else that we know of has had it in either my family or my
husbands.

as far as the lap-band..dr.greene says I may get a 50 pound a yr weight loss.I
am just a bit scared and would be for either surgery that I will be the one it
wont work for!did u have this thought at all?is it normal?hahha dr.greene says
after the surgery for the first 2 weeks u have to be on a liquid only diet, did u
or r u doing this as well and if so do u feel as thow u r starving?I am sure the
great weight loss u have had so far is great motivation!

Kim...

I had the Lap Band procedure 12 days ago. I have lost 9 pounds and
feel great. I came home the same day and had very little pain. Five
tiny little keyhole incisions and nary a stitch - inside or out.

I did a lot of soul searching and research before deciding on which
surgery I wanted to have. My insurance would pay for whatever
choice I made, but frankly the mortality rate of the bypass and the
life-long supplements etc made me look for another option. I also
have a family history of osteoporosis. I know several people,
however, who have had successful RNY surgery and any one of them
could be the poster child for gastric bypass.

It's a very personal decision, and one you want to be sure of before
you sign up for a particular procedure. Ask your doctor to give you
the pros and cons of all the options, then decide.

Carlene
