Tobie,
I am 2 weeks post-op from the VBG and have lost 24 lbs. I am 27,
5'10" and currently weigh 268. I am happy with my decision, and I
also had some misgivings about the RNY. I am sure it is the same for
you...just seems too much for me to have them reorganize my insides,
and the dumping syndrome, and lifelong vitamins, and potential hair
loss, and others...not to say VBG doesn't have risks either... People
and some doctors seem to push the RNY though, but it may not be the
best choice for everyone. My doctor prefers the VBG.
Here is another yahoo group that is very helpful for those considering
VBG. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/VBGersSupport/
I also considered Gastric Banding or the LapBand...but I felt that I
wouldn't be responsible enough to ensure it was always properly
adjusted. I felt like I would cheat on it, or I wouldn't be able to
afford the $300 or whatever at the time to get it adjusted. I wanted
the VBG as a more static or permanent fix where I didn't have the
option. I mean, I got fat because I had too many options, ya know?
Feel free to email me or please visit the VBG support group at the
link above.
Take care and good luck!
~Kim
