Hi Donna,
Welcome to the group. I recently joined also and it seems to be a
fairly quiet bunch.
As to your question. The first thing is to research the types of
operations there are for weight loss, if you haven't do so already.
I had a BPD/DS, my husband had a BPD, I've know others who have had
RNY (various types) and lap bands. A good place to do this is at

You can also check for doctors in your area and see what insurance
they take. Most insurance plans have conditions or whether you
qualify. I'm on Medicare, they insist on a BMI of 40 or more with at
least one comorbidity (or 35BMI with a bunch of comorbidites). Some
insurances have total exclusions, some have exclusions for everything
but RNY. Check your insurance booklet for exclusions, I'm told it is
best not to call and ask directly. I think the best one to ask is
the office of the doctor you choose.
Hope this helps.
Good luck in your journey

wits end. Did Atkins and got down from 300lbs to 240lbs but gained
and I'm back up to 260lbs.

sigh. Some people told me that most insurance companies won't cover
these operations but I would think it would be more of a benefit to
the insurance companies to have me slim and healthy then over weight
and paying for all kinds of medical problems later on down the road.
