We are devastated to learn of Mike's passing. We are so sorry.
Please pass on our deepest sympathy to Deb and Mike's wider family. He really was the Best of the best...I've just been looking over some of his messages to us and copies of letters to Pharmac on behalf of the New Zealanders trying to get better treatment. He was so caring and capable...a real friend and inspiration . He sent us Lance Armstrong "Livestrong" bracelets and allowed us to phone him for encouragement and advice when Mark was at a low point with recurrence of his tumour...What great advice he gave...
He always checked in with us to see how our teenage girls were doing, and loved our dog Jasper!!! In fact I think he loved EVERYONE...and he certainly did LIVESTRONG!!!
We will really miss his wisdom and his tenacity in research. We are so impressed with everything he managed to achieve in spite of the odds stacked against him. Such an awesome person - and we only knew him from afar. How much greater is the loss you will have experienced. We will be thinking of you and praying for strength and comfort for you all through the hard days ahead.
