Our CNA program was four weeks. It is just one class--Basic Nursing I.
There was no interview required for the class.
I agree completely that CNAs are valuable and that they are caring and
competent individuals. However, they don't get paid what they're worth.
I don't necessarily agree with this statement: "If your true reason for
getting into the career is money then I will tell you without hesitation
that you need to look elsewhere."
Many of our nurses would not be in the profession if it weren't for the
money. Let's not kid ourselves here. Of course, you have to like what
you do, at least a little bit, but come on!
There was a big brouhaha over this several months ago on this list (or
another list). It bugs me to no end when people criticize nurses
because one of their motivations for going into the profession was
needing a steady job with a good income. It's This doesn't mean that
they aren't caring people, or that they aren't good at their jobs.
As one of those who are definitely going into this for the money, I
truly resent comments such as that above. I don't want to work at
Wal-Mart, the only other option around here. This doesn't mean that I'm
not a good nurse or a caring person. But if nursing only paid $8.00 per
hour, I wouldn't be one. That's reality, folks.

"CNA's don't get the accolades they deserve."

"If your true reason for getting into the career is money then I will
tell you without hesitation that you need to look elsewhere. With time,
you will tire of the field and the money wont seem worth the
requirements of the job. Like a poster stated earlier...if u have a
caring attitude and truly love medicine and want to help ppl then give
it shot."
