That would be great advice if a person could support themselves and
their family on a CNA salary. Around here, you can make more working at
McDonald's than you can as a CNA.

I totally agree.
I am a CNA and I am taking everything with baby steps as I am a single
mom.
I am in LPN school now, and I am looking forward to RN school.
My biggest suggestion to anyone who want to be a nurse is to become a
CNA
first to "test" the waters and know exactly what you maybe getting
into.
I have found being a CNA has helped me a great deal in school because
the
RN's and LPN's help you to understand what you may be studying.
This may not be the case in all setting, but I work at a wonderful
hospital
which really pushes the staff to be the best they can be.
