Unfortunately some people go into nursing just because you can make a VERY
good salary. They don't CARE about people/patients. They don't have the desire
to HELP people get through tough situations. Nursing is all about caring for
people. Yes, on occasion you do have to do dirty jobs but that's what helping
sick people is all about. You also get to work with doctors and RN's who are
trying to diagnose what the heck is really going on with someone and put a
great treatment (Rx) plan in place. Once you have the right Rx plan , you
begin to see that sick person get better and you know YOU were a part of making
that happen. Nursing is wonderful but its not easy. If you are a helper by
nature you are probably well suited. If you are doing it just to make money..
don't sign up!
In any case, if you do decide to start on this path try to dedicate yourself
to going on and becoming an RN... that's where you will really truly feel
like what you do matters. Your LVN will allow you to start working as a nurse
while you continue your education.
Good luck to you as you make your decision. If you would like to continue
chatting just email me again. I am a home care administrator and have worked as
a nurse for 35 years.
