-Hello everyone,
We do not have CNAII's here in Virginia however it is my
understanding that it is under consideration for the near future.
Probably a program similar to that in NC. I do work in a hospital
currently in Central Sterile Supply (where they clean all the
surgical instruments among other things). I just transfered there
from the floor and basically you do the same things on the floor you
would anywhere else you just have different patients every couple of
days. There are plans however to have the PCA's (as we are called) do
fingersticks, and take out catheters and IV's. Just thought I would
put my two cents in. Thanks, Cheryl -- In

Hi, Sorry to not responding so soon, I have been working, and going to
school, etc. Anyways, I live in pa. And we (at least where I work) do not do
anyof
what you mentioned. We did have a resident last year that was sent out for
something, and she ended up having a trach put in and a feeding tube. She wasn't
allowed to come back because of the trach. "our" facility doesn't allow
trach's, but one of our other facilities do. So she went there. All we are
allowed
to do is basic care, and some treatments, as long as they are not medicated.

Hi,
I worked in a hospital as a Technical Colleague in Wisconsin. I
quit this job after my back was injured unable to find a different
postion within the organization. Job duties at the hopsital
included performing EKG's, inserting indwelling catheters, hanging
tube feedings, wed/dry bandaging, giving enemas, checking blood
sugar, re-setting IV's, and other simple nursing duties that did not
include passing medications. I received additional training at this
hospital in order to perform these duties. I don't know if this is
a level II CNA. Healthcare facilities where I am located have
different policies regarding CNA duties. Today I am working at a
long-term health care facility and am not allowed to reset an IV or
fix a tube feeding even though I know how.
Hi gang,
This is what CNA's do in hospitals they are Nursing Techs here in
ole Arkansas.
I am not a Tech just a plain oh hard working CNA.
I hope everyone is doing alright.

A few weeks ago I told this group how I ran into a fellow
CNA student who was freelancing. She got insurance from
nso.org, and works for herself getting $45 per hour, or
$45 for a bath visit.
Anyone think that's legit? Why make $10 per hour when you
can make $45 per hour on your own? Is this too good to be
true?

This group is dead! HELLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ANYONE
OUT THERE?????????????????????????????????????????????
SPEAK PPL TALK ABOUT SOMETHING!
Hi,
I live in California, and someone who took the CNA course
and got certified with me says she is free-lancing. I
thought a CNA always had to be supervised by an RN. She
says she got her liability insurance at nso.com, and put
an add in the paper, and is making as much as the clients
would otherwise be paying an agency.
Has anyone else done this? Heck, I'd love to make $45 an
hour as a CNA.
Anybody know if this is legitimate?
Thanks,
Alex
Hello Group,
Happy Holidays! How was Thanksgiving for you all?
Mine was great all except maybe a few things but mostly it went
wonderfully.
We received our NAGNA and well I put it this way ..I thought it was
the greatest thing in the world..to be frank..it really isnt all
that it is cracked up to be! You have to pay for every little bit
of coverage they offer..it can be very expensive if you add it up.
Then if you add people to ur coverage your talking about alot of
$$$$$$$$$!!!!
Anyway I think we are going to write up a letter signed by all and
call them and tell them how we think and the guy who had the meeting
with us all that day about nagna he said everything will be
available to us under that amount of $ we get deducted from our
checks every two weeks and to our understanding it was to cover
everything.
BUT we were WRONG! No excuse me, HE WAS WRONG for lying to us!
Anyway the free things they send you when u join up will end up
costing us out the a$$!
Anyway..make sure if you get to experiance the NAGNA you ask alot of
questions before applying to this service.
Anyway..
TO SUM IT UP WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED!
This CNA who had it in Missouri said that it covered all but it dont
with us for some reason!
Anyway next subject.
We have this resident where I work she screams..talks loudly all
night long and what I hear all day too! Hardly ever sleeps..so they
prescribed her Ambien well that works 2 or 3 hours at the most. We
try to talk to her and calm her and tell her to be more quieter but
that doesnt help.. we have tried to put her in front of the big
screen and that doesnt help. She is in a Geri Chair cuz she falls
alot. So what I am asking is HELP!!!!!!!!SHE IS REALLY DRIVING US
NUTZ!!!!!!! I mean I can handle her for a lengthy time...but it is
disrupting other residents from her hollaring and it is really
breaking our thinking at night when we are doing paper work..you
know we all one resident that really bugs ya...but we love em
anyway..but this woman is totally out of control..we have wrote
behavior sheets after behavior sheets on her and nothing is helping!
I have even given her a magazine to look at that doesnt help. Any
suggestions on how to occupy her mind?
Another thing,,,Welcome Newbies and good luck on your CNA life.
May your life be filled with alot of teaching from the elderly and
love.
Well Merry Christmas everyone!

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I'm not a CNA yet, but I'm working on
getting into a training course at one of the local nursing homes. I'm
excited and really hope I get into a class soon, but at the same time
I'm kinda nervous. I'm pretty positive tho, that once I get going and
get on a roll I'll be fine. I'm trying to decide whether or not I
want to pursue a nursing career. Right now, all I know is I for sure
want to do something in the medical field. I have a pretty good idea
of what all to expect as a CNA (my mom was one, and a good friend of
mine was b4 she became an RN), but if anyone has any advice or
pointers or anything, they'd be appreciated! Thanks!
HI My name is Heather. I have been a STNA for a year now. I am
wondering if anyone lives in the Toledo, Ohio area. I moved back
here and am looking for a job. I have to take the bus :( So it's
hard to find a bus that will take me certain places and not have to
transfer so much.. Hope everyone has a good day
heather
I agree that this group has been encouraging and
enlightening to me. Sometimes too enlightening, but
it's a free country/internet.

Thank you for the kind compliment
I created this group for the CNA's of this world to come and discuss
the issue's that we face in our everyday world of CNA work. Either
in home health or hospital or at home care or nursing homes.
Without my members this group would not be like it is today and I
appreciate them all!
I hope you will continue to enjoy this group.

beat up a resident! What is yalls thoughts on this story? I say

PINE BLUFF, Ark. --An elderly woman is NOT expected to live after
suffering a beating with brass knuckles in her nursing home bed.
That's the word from the woman's granddaughter. Two women are
charged with adult abuse in the case. But a prosecutor says he's
prepared to alter the charges if 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan dies.
Nursing assistants 17-year-old Shermika Rainey and 44-year-old Gayla
Wilson are each charged with a felony count of adult abuse.
They work at Dallas County Nursing Home.
The pair were accused in Ryan's beating on July 30th. Authorities
say Ryan was beaten by a certified nurse's aide while another
employee held her on the bed. According to an affidavit, Wilson told
Rainey she was tired of the woman, quote, ``being disrespectful.''

Geri chairs are great when used correctly. WE have a
lock down unit at our home and it is wonderful for
those who wander. I personally would rather see them
in a locked unit than in chairs....you could also try
a merry walker.......they don't usually fit thru
outside doors. Hope everyone is having a wonderful
fourth of July!!!

It has been in my past experience that once you put a
person with organic brain disorder, dementia or
Alzheimers in a gerichair, they don't come back out.
In saying that, I mean that with these types of
diseases, the thought process is damaged...they forget
everything they knew about walking and can't be
re-trained. Geri-chairs should be last resort in my
book.
Something that most people don't know is that a
large number of these people have no depth
perception...the point of that being that I have seen
black mats placed in front of areas that were
hazardous for wonderers to roam to. They can't tell
if it is a hole or a mat because their depth
perception is gone and they won't cross over the mat.
Another thing that I have noticed is that many
Alzheimer patients hate to walk on carpet. I figure
that is from the static electricity that is built up
in the fibers. Such are the mysterious ways of the
human brain.
Have a great fourth of July everyone!

Posting this just in case someone missed it or I have forgotten to

Your founder,
Sheila
Ethel was a bit of a demon in her wheelchair, and
loved to charge around the nursing home, taking
corners on one wheel and getting up to maximum speed
on the long corridors. Because the poor woman was one
sandwich short of a picnic, the other residents
tolerated her, and some of the males actually joined
in.
>
>One day, Ethel was speeding up one corridor when a
door opened and Kooky Clarence stepped out with his
arm outstretched. "STOP!", he shouted in a firm voice.
"Have you got a license for that thing?" Ethel fished
around in her handbag and pulled out a Kit Kat wrapper
and held it up to him.

>"OK" he said, and away Ethel sped down the hall.
>
>As she took the corner near the TV lounge on one

shouted, "STOP! Have you got proof of insurance?"
Ethel dug into her handbag, pulled out a drink coaster
and held it up to him. Harold nodded and said, "Carry
on, ma'am."
