Welcome to our Group!
Hello there!
We have a pioneer program where I work at that deals with Dementia
and Alzheimer disease residents. They keep them occupied by
television, movies, music, reading and playing cards and other games.
With your young residents get to know them first. Then when you
realize what they like then go from there. I use to rent movies for
the young ones where I worked at now and before. This guy that was
shot and paralazed from the neck down use to draw and paint with his
mouth he really enjoyed that.
This other younger resident like the computers and internet.
Just treat them like you would want to be treated if you lived in a
nursing home. Bring them up to date movies, magazines, news topics
to discuss. I see the young and the old the main complaint is
LONELINESS! Bordem is another. Print jokes out to share with
them. Stories and such and funny ones at that. Laughter is the
best thing for them. Make someone laugh all times you will have a
friend and they will like ya more! LOL!
Scrapbooking could be good also and have them make diaries. This
way if anything should happen they will have their thoughts (good or
bad) to give to their loved ones. Some young people could be angry
cause they are placed in a LTC. Let them vent. Listen and learn.
SO anyway..I hope some of this has made some sense to you. I wish
you luck.
