I don't think there is any difference in general (IMO) in what fluid you use, it's only for about 2' of tubing, it's not like your mixing the fluid in the bag...

If there is a reaction, I was taught not to run the transfusion IV site at all. You are only going to flush more of this "bad" blood into the patients system....
assuming you HAVE a second access point. :) you could also D/C the blood hookup, aspirate back into the syringe then hook up the NSS (Different bag + tubing)...
