The “official” policy where I
work is 14 days, but we rarely trach someone at my facility until it’s
been closer to 3 weeks….sometimes longer, depending on other
situation. For instance right now we have a patient who’s been
intubated for close to three weeks, but his blood pressure is still unstable,
so the surgeons won’t take him to surgery for a trach.
Hope that helps,
Cassi
Hi
All… when do most of you trach your intubated patients? The literature
varies 7-14 days and longer. We are trying to facilitate bed movement but some
Pulmonologists won’t discuss with their patients till they’ve been
intubated over 14 days… thanks, Carolyn
