I was taught NOT to use port of IABP, only as last resort, in emergency. Also
keep pt 1:1 for 1st 24hrs, unless unstable, then until stable. Visual a must!

Subject: IABP
Hi ,
I have a couple of questions for the group.
1. Do you use Arrows' IABP introducers with a side arm
2. If you use the introducer with a side arm what is your policy for
caring for the introducer (ie connected to a pressure bag, transduced etc)
3. Do you draw blood off of the sidearm and if you do, are there any
specific guidelines
I have taken care of IABP for many years and was taught that you do not
draw blood from the IABP unless it was a emergency. WE are seeing more
introducer with side arms and according to arrow, it was developed so blood
could be drawn off of the side arm.
Thank you in advance.
Kevin
