Hi all.
I work in a 32 bed general ICU. We do not care for tramas, burns
or children. Anything else is possible. We are trying to address
staffing issues. Our gneral rule of thumb is 2:1 ratio. We do have
some patients that are 1:1 on occasion.
Looking back at the last year it has been noticed that several
times a month the staffing has been 3:1. Every time the staff has
expressed dissatisfaction with the care they are able to provide. We
also have noticed it increases our legnth of stay. It does not occur at
any one shift or day more that others. We are looking for solutions to
this.
We are curretly looking to decrease this as much as possible.Does
anyone have a suggestion to aleviate this or decrease this? What does
you facility do when this arises? Thank you.
