Hello - I'm Barb Staker. I'm new to the group & a new
grad working a new job in the Medical Intensive Care
Unit in Rock Island, Illinois. To answer your
question of the month re: charting of vent settings -
we chart them in 2 places. Respiratory Therapy does
vent checks once an hour and has a flowsheet at the
patient's bedside. The flow sheet that the RN works
off of also has a place for vent settings, so it is
charted twice as a double check and so the RN is aware
of any weaning processes that RT may be doing.
To comment on the issue of the BP cuff being a
contaminated piece of equipment - our facility uses
disposable cuffs on our patients. There is a
non-disposable in each room & if that is used it is
cleaned with a bleach solution before using it on
another patient.
Hope this helps. It's freat to be a part of a group
like this one.
Sincerely,
=====
Barbara Staker, RNLP
