The only rectal tube I have seen is called a
flexiseal; I believe this is what you are talking
about.
This tube really helps in maintaining skin with less
potential for breakdown. It is super easy to insert
just follow the intructions. What makes this
intervention cool, is that you do not have to use
adhesives and no suction. The only requirement is that
the patient's stool be semi-liquid, not solid. Even
than the tube has an irrigation port for stool that is
very pasty to help the stool flow to gravity. I
believe the tube can only stay in the patient's rectal
vault for 29 days before it has to be changed.
Two negatives about the tube; there will be some
leakage, but it is still much better than having stool
all over the place. And while measuring, if you had to
irrigate with water you have to calculate that into
the I & O's.
