We recently started out CAT TEAM (Critical Assessment Team ) April 4th and
it has been a great success. There are many models I realize, but we
chose to use a critical care nurse and respiratory therapy response team.
The staff on all of the nursing units can call the operator and have a CAT
TEAM page sent out and it goes to a pager carried by the critical care
nurse, the RRT and the ADON. It also goes to me as the critical care
educator, and to the director of critical care. There is a tracking form
filled out by the staff that respond, and there is a form filled out to
give me input on the staff from the unit's communication with the floor
nurses. We have been doing this informally for a long time but we went
formal with it in April. Let me know how I can help. We had in the first
month 22 calls for the team and the second month we had 30. We avoided
critical care transport on 5 the first month and 3 the second but avoided
codes in all. We were able to transport to a higher level of care for
urgent intervention but not EMERGENT.

Rapid Response Team
Hi everyone,
I am looking for any information on developing a rapid response team
(also known as early intervention team). We are researching
different
models that have been implemented and are looking for feedback
regarding success of the programs and what healthcare professionals
are included on the team.
Thanks, Joy Speciale
