Thanks or joining us Gyle (Ironstud 11). I hope you will share with us your
situation and struggle 2 keep out of the nursing home.

Gyle has been givng the state of ND lots of hell to keep folks out of nursing
homes. Our state govetnments have 2 keep hearing from us that nursing
homes are NO place like home.

Welcome again Gyle.

Thanks Larry! Yeah it is frustrating to see Olmstead move so slowly. I think
litigation against states not complying will be the only way to do it.

That's more than likely the only way for me to leave the nursng home. States
aren't
doing a progressive job integrating folks with disabilities. They need to be
accountable and the money needs to flow away from the nursing homes. We need
MiCasa and Money Follows the Person legislation so badly.

The nursing home lobby is fightin a losing battle. More people want to live in
real
homes and not "Facilities" that warehouse us.

Well done Mark. I just wish I understood why, when the Olmstead
decision has stated it shall be so, there is still so much fighting
required to make it happen. I thought when that decision came down that
the fighting was over, the decision had been made. Now the states were
going to have to comply. ????????

Boy Mark, I don't know but it sounds like it is going to be costly. I'd
try to go back to J.H. Emerson and ask them if they are aware of any
models that do work with their equipment. By the way, since it is
likely that it will be expensive, you might try finding a rental company
that has one once you find a model number.

Peace, Larry

Here's an update on my quest for a power inverter.
First off my main piece of equipment I want to run off
the inverter is the Cough Assist. I emailed the Cough
Assist folks and I just got their reply.

They said the CoughAssist requires a true-sine-wave
inverter with a minimum of 250 watts. They said the
CoughAssist will not function properly with a typical
square-wave or modified square-wave inverter.

Anybody know where I can get a 250 watt true-sine-wave
inverter that can plug into a cigarette lighter? Any
help would be appreciaed.

Welcome to our online group! Glad to have you participate.

I have a question for you. What agency do you go through to get nursing/pca
care?
I'm trying to get care through Meritcare Home Health in Fargo but there are some
hurdles.

First they want me to have a pretty iron clad backup plan if their staff can't
show. I've
never had to deal with something like this and i'm not sure what will be
adequate
enough.

The other thing is how much deciding will I be allowed in my care level. I
don't think
all 24/7 needs to be an RN/LPN. Some of the care I think could be done by
trained
pca's. So many things to think over.

Any input you have for me would be great.

Take care,

Mark

Larry,

I use the LP10. I mainly wanted to get the inverter
to run my Cough Assist machine. I emailed Rob at J.H.
Emerson about how much wattage the Cough Assist draws.
  I'm awaiting his response.

Radio Shack looked like they had good ones but I will
check my local Napa and Carquest stores too.

Thanks for the advice and I'll keep you posted on what
I find out.

Well I was going to answer your question but I thing you got good
answers from the [Vent List]. I'm not sure what vent you are using but
there are several ways that you can power it in a car or van. Talk to
your vent supplier and find out how much power it draws in watts before
you buy a DC/AC converter. Just make sure that the converter will
supply an adequate number of watts to power the vent and hopefully have
enough power left over to also power a suction machine if that should be
necessary.

My Pulmonetic Systems LTV can be plugged directly into the cigar lighter
with the proper cable. Of course they get $208 for that cable. But I
also have another battery that is used to jump start a car and it has a
cigar lighter outlet on it and so it can also power my vent if needed.
I have two suction machines, one is portable and has an internal battery
that allows it to provide a pretty good suctioning.

Peace, Larry
