I don't see a problem with having your suction setting on high. Is there a reason why your nurse thinks the setting is too high?
I currently use an older Devilbiss machine and it works ok. To get any decent suction my machine is turned as high as it goes.

It depends...everyone is different. I have mine set a bit on the high side to suck that gunk up.
I have one of the smaller suctions machines that they don't make any more. I treat that thing like GOld.

I have the form called The 5 Wishes. If you Google it, you can probably find a copy. Depending on what state you are in (or what state you wish it to be acknowledged) will dictate what you will have to do make it a legal document. The last page will tell you what state's recognize it and what you must do in each state to make it legal. Things I find helpful to include are a proxy who is well informed of you wishes, the exact definition of when you want to be a DNR, time length (if desired) on any treatment used to prolong your life while in PVS/incompetent/etc, and any wishes that you want that legally do not have to be honored (type of funeral, whether you want any type of religious "last rites," donate body to science, etc). The 5 Wishes has a section which include these and much more. Feel free to ask any ?'s.
I'm working on my living will before I go to college. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share with me (off the board or on) some or all of their requests in their living will. If you prefer to e-mail me privately, you can send it to TWEETYROLL88@...
Thanks!

Someone told me that Medicare was going to stop
paying for home oxygen tanks and concentrators.
You would receive one concentrator but you are
responsible for maintenence etc.
Do any of you know if this is true or not?
I can't imagine The government taking away
people's oxygen but nothing surprises me anymore.

While attending a marriage seminar on communication Wally and his wife Carolyn listened carefully as the counselor declared "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other."
He addressed the men, "Can you describe your wife's favorite flower?"
Wally leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and whispered, " Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn't it?"
I'd like to start something a bit new on the group and I welcome any input on this.
Starting today I'll be starting something called Funny Friday. On Fridays any member can post a clean or semi-clean joke or cartoon to the list. I think this a great way to get a good laugh before the weekend.
Take care and I look forward to seeing everybody jokes!
Thanks so much for the update on John! I'm so happy he's able to speak but the road to total recovery I'm sure will take awhile. I've been thinking bout John alot and thank goodness he has a great family behind him.
Hope everybody is getting cooler weather this weekend and some relief from the terrible heat wave.
Thanks again Bob for the update!

Hello, list friends; this is Bob in hot, hot NY. I just
spoke via phone to John in California and he is beginning to be able to speak. He told me that he has a long way to go, and that he feels very weak, but I was able to understand him without any difficulty. He is able to talk in very short phrases and it is truly miraculous! He has a loving supportive family. And to think his Mom told me the drs had recommended taking him off life support; it is enough to make one shudder with fear!
I hope all of you listers are doing well and that you have air-conditioning. I took a really, really, really bad fall about two weeks ago, but am starting to recover; I actually broke a rib, but it could have been a lot worse.
Happy Birthday Scott shows they aren't always right I
was given 2yrs by doctors 7 yrs ago and I'm not far
behind you I'll be 38 on the 13th.

Way to go man! You are a great example of how the medical establishment can be so wrong when trying to predict the length of someone's life. When I was diagnosed with Duchenne's in 1980 the docs said he may see 16. Well on Aug 16th i'll be 31 ;-)
Hope you had a great birthday! Keep on striving for the big 5-0
