Telling Blacks about Milk

Yesterday's Chicago Sun Times (October 31, 2005) contains an article
suggesting that milk may not be a healthy food for America's black
population. See:

http://www.suntimes.com/output/health/cst-nws-milk31.html

The sad fact is that blacks with African heritage do not tolerate
milk sugars, milk proteins, and milk hormones as do whites with
European ancestry, and black Americans are targeted by the
dairy industry.

What is it like to be black in America?

* The white man assumes that there is equality between the
races.

* The black man knows that there is not.

* The white woman believes that the black woman has attained
equal rights.

* The black woman is sicker, fatter, and poorer than her
white sister.

We whites and blacks now share the same opportunities, and
may live on the same streets and work the same jobs. Our
brains work the same, and our blood, muscles, and internal
organs function in like manners. There is one very powerful
difference between the races.

Whites with European backgrounds can tolerate milk and dairy
products. Blacks with African ancestry cannot. With that
difference considered, it would be hazardous for blacks to
consume an amount of dairy equal to whites. It might even be
deadly for blacks to consume greater amounts of milk and
dairy. That is exactly what they are doing.

Ninety-five percent of African-Americans cannot tolerate
lactose. Pizza and ice cream taste delicious on the way into
their bodies. Lactose is a sugar, and most people need the
enzyme (lactase) to break down lactose into glucose and
galactose. Intact, this sugar is broken down in the
intestines by bacteria and the results are gas, bloating,
and intestinal distress.

Casein represents eighty percent of milk protein. This
tenacious glue causes histamine production, the body's
natural defense against an invading antigen. One's
antibodies result in mucus, and plenty of it.

Inner-city school systems like Boston, New York, Detroit,
Chicago, and Los Angeles have very large populations of
African-American students. In New York City, 38 percent of
homeless children and 25 percent of kids in the Bronx
schools have asthma. Got milk? Got cheese? These kids do,
particularly chocolate milk.

Milk contains powerful hormones. Rates of sexual maturity in
children are astounding 21st century endocrinologists and
behavioral psychologists. A recent study revealed that
eighty percent of nine-year-old African-American girls had
breast development with early sexual maturity.

Children are becoming overweight at an earlier age too. By
eating growth hormones in combination with animal fat, the
body has a way of listening to the signals of those chemical
messengers: Grow!

One out of five children has attention deficit disorder
(ADD). A recent study in the Journal of Autism linked ADD
with a milk protein, casomorphin. This opiate is similar to
morphine, and it can be found in the healthiest milk from
the healthiest cows.

Many children of color live below the poverty level. The
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides free
food and nutritional programs for these kids. In its lack of
wisdom, USDA has chosen milk and dairy products to be the
major components of these kid's diets. These children now
receive free breakfasts of cereal with milk, free lunches of
chocolate with macaroni and cheese or pizza. A subsidized
snack before they go home is more chocolate milk.

Milk buffers gastric pH so that food in the stomach ferments
and putrefies. Kids drink hormones and act irritable. In May
of 1995, the Townsend Medical Letter listed eleven symptoms
from milk consumption including mood swings, depression, and
irratibility.

Milk is slavery to impoverished children. Milk takes away
their ability to learn. Poverty in America translates into a
billion dollar giveaway program. That gift to poor black
children and parents is free cheese and milk.

Add to that the dairy industry's milk mustache campaign.

As African-American women read pro-milk propaganda in
women's magazines, reinforced by milk mustache ads, rates of
breast cancer, osteoporosis, and diabetes soar to become
epidemics.

South African black women eat just 196 milligrams of calcium
per day, yet American women, who are eating 986 milligrams
of calcium daily, experience eleven times the rate of pelvic
fractures as their African sisters.

The consumption of cheese has more than tripled in the past
twenty years from an average of 10 pounds per person each
year to 31 pounds. Combine that with an enormous campaign
that targets African-Americans by hiring athletes, models,
actresses, and celebrities to pose with milk mustaches, and
we find the reason for increased rates of allergies, breast
cancer, osteoporosis, asthma, diabetes, and other ailments
in the African-American community.

Can things be worse for blacks? Unfortunately, the answer is
yes. The latest death statistics confirm that black people
face medical genocide, when it comes to cancer.

Despite new cancer procedures, which include earlier rates
of detection and technologically advanced means of treating
carcinomas, blacks are not keeping up with white survival
rates.

As black people are targeted by dairy industry promotions to
consume more milk and cheese, and by government regulators
to eat what is white in the name of good health, they ingest
increased amounts of powerful hormones.

There are hundreds of millions of different proteins in
nature, and only one hormone that is identical between any
two species. That powerful growth hormone is insulin-like
growth factor, or IGF-I. IGF-I survives digestion and has
been identified as a key factor in cancer's growth. IGF-I is
identical in human and cow.

If you believe that breast feeding "works" to protect
lactoferrins and immunoglobulins from digestion (and benefit
the nursing infant), you must also recognize that milk is a
hormonal delivery system. By drinking cow's milk, one
delivers IGF-I in a bioactive form to the body's cells. When
IGF-I from cow's milk alights upon an existing cancer, it's
the signal to grow. To proliferate. IGF-I has been called a
key factor in the growth and proliferation of every human
cancer.

A cancer takes 8-10 years to grow from one cell to one-
million cells. As a result of increased surveillance and
awareness, cancers are being diagnosed much earlier than
ever before. As a result of increased technologies, cancer
death rates have been reversed among whites. During this
same time frame, blacks have been the target of the dairy
industry and government. Breast cancer death rates for
whites have dropped. Breast cancer rates for blacks have
increased. Prostate cancer death rates for white men have
decreased. The rate for black men has increased by double
digits. The same can be said for colon cancer death rates.

From 1980 until 2000, colon cancer death rates decreased by
a factor of 27.6 percent for white males and 29.6 percent
for white females. Black females experienced only a 7.3
percent decrease, while black males experienced a 6 percent
increase.

From 1980 until 2000, breast cancer death rates decreased by
a factor of 17.6 percent for white women, while breast
cancer rates for black women increased by a factor of 9.1
percent.

From 1980 until 2000, prostate cancer death rates decreased
by a factor of 7.6 percent for white males, while prostate
cancer rates for black males increased by a factor of 11.6
percent.

Lympoma rates for males and females were about equal.
Amazingly, despite increased technologies, lymphoma rates
have soared equally for both races.

While rates of breast, prostate, and colon cancer were
decreasing for white men and women, rates of lymphatic
cancer deaths increased 39 percent for white males and 27.3
percent for white females. Black males suffered an increase
of 31.4 percent, while black female deaths increased by a
factor of 35.5 percent.

In October of 1992, Scientific American wrote:

"The National Dairy Board's Slogan, 'Milk. It does a body
good,' sounds a little hollow these days."

More than a decade later, those words have never been more
true.

Chocolate Slavery

This weekend, if you are like most Americans, there
was one or more overpriced bags of Halloween candy
sitting on a supermarket shelf awaiting your purchase.

Trick or treat? Today, kids will bring home bags of
milk chocolate and those children notalready addicted
to milk hormones will soon become casomorphin addicts.
Three pounds of milk are required to produce one pound
of milk chocolate, and a naturally occurring opiate,
similarto morphine will become the trick of all tricks
to America's trick or treaters. Dr. Robert Cade (University
of Florida) attibutes attention deficit disorder to the
consumption of casomorphin frommilk and dairy products.

Physical addiction? ADD? That's part of the slavery issue
regarding milk chocolate for all consumers, but there is
another powerful issue of slavery that must be examined
regarding chocolate producers.

There are many injustices in this world, but none greater
than what happens to the kidnapped boys and girls who have
become slaves in the nation of Ivory Coast.

Your next sip of chocolate milk, even soy chocolate
milk, may represent the blood, sweat, and tears of
those with no future.

Hershey, Nestle, and Mars candy bar lovers have got
to come to terms with this one. If you support these
companies by eating their milk chocolate candies, then
you are not part of the solution. You are the problem.

Bugging Dairymen

Yesterday (October 29, 2005), I reported that University
of Minnesota investigators had visited 110 dairy farms
in four states and determined that 92.7% of those farms
tested positive for salmonella. See:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/notmilk/message/2159

I was surprised by the angry responses from a few of my
dairy farmer readers. My columns often make news with
milk industry insiders who call the Notmilk "deceptive."
One young woman claimed that salmonella will, on "rare
occasions" test positive in cows, but it is extremely rare
to detect salmonella or other fecal bacteria in milk that has
been loaded on milk trucks. Her claim was that once the milk
is collected, filtered, and picked up by the milk truck, it
is clean and wholesome.

I've got some very bad news for her and other hard working
farmers.

The September, 2004 issue of the Journal Dairy Science (Volume
87:2822-2830) contains a study in which USDA researchers
documented the presence of fecal bacteria, including salmonella,
in milk that had been loaded onto refrigerated trucks.

Three government scientists (Van Kessel1, Karns, & Gorski)
tested 861 bulk milk trucks in 21 states.

Coliform bacteria (bacteria originating in cow colons) were
detected in 95% of the milk samples (818 of 860). Got dairy?
Got feces! The milk may be lily-white and appear to be pure,
but there is nothing wholesome about drinking a fluid tainted
with fecal bacteria.

I've always wondered about this: If health inspectors detect
the presence of mouse turds in a vat of apple cider (an
extremely rare event), the entire batch is condemned. Yet,
if those same inspectors were to detect the presence of cow
feces in cow's milk (it happens with every batch), that same
product is routinely packaged and distributed to consumers.

An American Recipe: Feces-Infused Milk

Ingredients:

Milk from one herd of dairy cows

Method:

Milk cows.
Collect and store milk in holding tank.
Filter milk. Discard filter with brown sludge.
<Note: That brown sludge ain't dirt.>
Load milk onto truck.
Put milk into containers.
Refrigerate.
Serve cold.

Percent of Dairy Farms w/Salmonella

Is salmonella a common bacterium found on a typical dairy farm?

The August 15, 2004 issue of the Journal of the American
Veterinary Medical Association (225(4):567-73) contains
a study that answers that question.

If you as a dairy consumer were suddenly made aware that some
dairy farms tested positive for salmonella contamination,
you might have extreme cause for concern. Just how bad is it?
What percentage of farms are affected? Here is a number that
should shock you:

92.7%

A group of scientists from the Department of Clinical and
Population Science at the College of Veterinary Medicine,
University of Minnesota, visited 110 dairy farms in
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and New York and
tested 22,417 samples from cattle. Laboratory testing
confirmed that 102 out of 110, or 92.7% of dairy farms
tested positive for salmonella contamination.

How does that translate into glasses of milk for you
and your family? If you drink milk every day of the week,
during a two-week period, thirteen out of fourteen
days you will drink milk that comes from a farm that
tests positive for salmonella.

The next time you or a loved one is cursed with the sudden
onset of nausea, abdominal pain, and/or diarrhea, don't
blame your bad luck on a casual sneezing encounter at work
or school. Your doctor will treat you with an antibiotic,
which really does not work. There is no cure for a
salmonella infection, which, in most cases, is cured by
the body's own immune system in less than a week. One
percent of those infected die during that period of
suffering. Your clueless physician will not blame the
infection on the cheese you ate 5 days earlier. That is
not your doctor's job. Few epidemiologists make the effort
of tracing a case of one winter's cold back to a sick cow.

Cows naturally shed bacteria into their milk. Salmonella,
E. coli, lysteria, camphlobacter are just a few.

By purchasing and consuming body fluids from diseased
animals, we place our families and ourselves at great risk.

I used to love the pus-filled cheeses with the blue molds
(Stilton, Roquefort, blue cheese) but now view such products
as pus with hormones and glue. Consider the health and
safety of your children and family while doing the same.
Bacteria can live in cheese for up to six months.

Nature's perfect food naturally contains dangerous pathogens.
Cow's milk is perfectly disgusting. Salmonella. E. coli.
Listeria. Yersinia. Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. None of
the above is completely destroyed by pasteurization. The
milk is heated in the processing plant. Some bacterial
spores survive. As the milk cools, the bacteria begins to
grow again, doubling at room temperature every 20 minutes.
Doubling every thirty hours in the refrigerator while under
40 degrees Fahrenheit cold storage.

Millions of people who become ill each year place their faith
in those who know the truth about milk.

If only you could see the filters from the milk from freshly
milked cows, which capture feces, clotted blood, and phlegm.
Feces pass coloform bacteria (from the colon) to the milk
you drink. This is not the exception to the rule. This is
the nature of the not-so wholesome food called milk.

In May of 2004, the Centers for Disease Control's monthly
Emerging Disease Journal (Vol. 10, No. 5) traced the
etiology of infectious disease outbreaks directly to
pasteurized milk consumption.

<http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/EID/vol10no5/03-0484.htm >

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) scientists determined
that a new strain of multidrug-resistant salmonella,
passed from cows to humans through milk, cannot be
controlled by antibiotics.

Sonja Olsen's team investigated a recent Pennsylvania outbreak.
CDC determined that routine inspections do not prevent
poisonings. CDC also determined that such contaminations
after pasteurization are common.

CDC did not state the obvious. Drink body fluids from
diseased animals and you place yourself at risk. Since
pasteurization does not work, and since infections in
cows are all so common, there is just one way to avoid
becoming a CDC statistic...Notmilk!

Admissions of Guilt by Dairymen

Obesity Epidemic? Early Sexual Maturity?
More than four decades ago, the dairy industry
admitted that their products are the cause.

Dairy Industry Takes Credit for Early Sexual Development

I sometimes read through old issues of Hoard's Dairyman,
the national dairy farm magazine. The October 26, 1963
issue contained an editorial with this shocking admission:

"Japanese Taller With Milk."

The Hoard's editor commented on a major change in Japan,
just 18 years after cow's milk consumption began:

"The average height of 15-year-old boys in Japan has jumped
3 1/2 inches since World War II. According to the Christian
Science Monitor, clothing and school equipment manufacturers
are faced with the problem of revising size standards to keep
pace with the sprouting Nippers."

Sprouting nippers? Talk about politically incorrect!
I do not know what is the viler act. Verbal insult upon
the entire Japanese race, or the arrogance of what follows.
Yes, it gets much worse. Hoard's continues:

"Milk is credited as being the primary cause of today's
Japanese being taller and broader. According to the 'Monitor,'
milk is sweeping Japan. It is readily available in railway
stations, in offices, and it seems more common for young people
to drink milk for refreshment than carbonated beverages.
Consumption is expected to rise 500 percent within 10 years."

OK, so America's dairy industry admitted that the enormous
growth spurt was due to cow's milk consumption, and they did
so without mentioning the "H" word, hormones. The healthiest
milk from the healtiest organically raised cow naturally
contains powerful growth hormones. These steroid and protein
hormones work. Japan is the largest living laboratory study,
in the world, an example of how an entire society changed in
only 18 years.

Is taller better? With surges in height, there came a
decrease in the age of secual maturity. In 1950, the
average Japanese girl menstrated for the first time at
15.2 years of age. Twenty-five years later, thanks to
milk hormones, she grew 4.5 inches, gained 19 pounds,
and the age of her first period dropped 3 years to
12.2. Whether or not you believe in

Humans were designed with just the right skeletal system
to hold a body's organs. Stretch the girders and in any
structure, be it a building or living system, and you
compromise the integrity of the plan. That is exactly
what man has done, with the help of dairy cows. Is it
any wonder that osteoporosis plagues milk-drinking nations?

I first wrote about the milk/Japanese growth connection in
1998. At that time, I cited a study published in "Preventive
Medicine" in 1978. Now, additional evidence identifies the
criminal who takes responsibility for his crime. The dairy
industry, guilty as charged. My 1998 column:

http://notmilk.com/deb/072698a.html

The 1963 Hoard's editorial concludes:

"This report has some interesting ramifications.
We could send a few of our quick-shooting heart
attack 'authorities' to Japan to scare the poor
kids out of drinking milk. Or we can suffer
along with their headlines here and arrange for
a swap of clothing and furniture. Our kids could
soon shrink to Nippon size if we followed the
advice of the confused cholesterol crowd."

What arrogance! I will say this for Hoard's. That
same racial insult and indignity is now indiscriminately
distributed to all people, without prejudice. Black,
white, young, old, milk does not do any human body one
iota of good.

The Dairy Farmer

Dairymen and dairywomen represent the hardest working
people in America. Their values, love for family, their
country and their God are values that I too hold dear.

These men and women work around the clock tending to their
business and chores, sometimes staying up in the middle of
the night with a sick animal. Their jobs and lives are
intermeshed because cows must eat seven days each week and
must be milked three times each day. Vacations are rare and
money is often extremely tight. Their profit margins are
measured in pennies per hundred pounds of product produced.
Without government subsidies, most of these welfare
recipients would be out of business.

These hard working Americans have always felt good about
themselves and the "wholesome milk" that they deliver to
America. That wonderful balance in their lives is now
threatened by the Dairy Education Board. I take no pleasure
is causing pain to these good people. However, I have to
consider the pain that their product causes to an entire
society. These dairy producers are death merchants and
their product is no better than heroin or cocaine grown
by equally hard working farmers and drug dealers in South
America.

I am often challenged by mothers or others, to offer
convincing arguments backed by scientific evidence
supporting the position that no humans should drink
cow's milk products.

Here are five of the best reasons:

Allergic reactions: http://www.notmilk.com/a.html

The key to cancer: http://www.notmilk.com/b.html

Growth hormones: http://www.notmilk.com/g.html

Heart disease: http://www.notmilk.com/h.html

Bone disease: http://www.notmilk.com/o.html

If that is not enough, I recommend that all
people read and distribute this letter sent
by a breast cancer surgeon to his patients:

Forgive and bless the dairy farmers, for the know
not what they do. Let them all become soybean growers
and soymilk drinkers. Let them all apply their work
ethic to producing organic fruits, vegetables, grains,
and beans for grateful consumers to eat.

Dairy Bribes to Senators Work

Fighting fire with fire can burn down our houses
and plunge America into a recession or depression,
all because two powerful American senators feel
that they must repay years of bribes from the
dairy industry and other agricultural PACs.

Can my accusation cause a lawsuit against me? I
certainly hope so. This news needs to get out.

The Japanese government has enacted a ban on meat
imports from the United States because of our history
of Mad Cow Disease. Today (October 26, 2005), Senators
Pat Roberts from Kansas and Kent Conrad from North
Dakota will introduce legislation that should result
in more than $3 billion in penalties (tariffs) against
Japan if Tokyo does not ease up on its own ban of beef
from American cows.

How does that proposed bill threaten you and me?

Japan has money, and lots of it, invested in America.
That money is in the form of hundreds of billions of
dollars in short term bonds. The money represents
an enormous deficit that America has accumulated
by fighting wars and running a negative cash flow
in unsuccessfully attempting to run the business of
our nation. Because of our inability to balance our
own budget, billions of dollars need to be borrowed
by finding cash-rich nations. It is not a healthy
economic practice to lose money every year and to
continue to borrow money, yet, that is America's
way of doing business.

Should Japan remove all of their invested bond
money all at once, we will be in serious trouble.

If a bully threatens you, blowing a spitball at the
back of his head will not solve your problems. It will
make him much worse. You may be in for the beating
of your life to do something that foolish. Japan
has the power to spank our nation into responsible
behavior. It is a lesson that we do not need to
experience.

In 1998 I revealed in my book "Milk-The Deadly Poison,"
that Senator Pat Roberts had been given over $220,000
in 1994 PAC money before the key vote to approve
Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine growth hormone.
Over $113,000 of those dollars came from dairy and
agricultural interests.

Should Roberts and Conrad succeed in their idiotic attempt
to repay their masters (agricultural and dairy interests),
be prepared to bend over and enjoy your coming Turkish
prison-like experience.

Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) will introduce
the legislation today. From 1999-2004, companies with
agricultural and dairy interests donated $210,925 to
Roberts and $169,450 to Conrad. It may be nice to have
the money to reward friends in high places, but at what
cost?

Atlanta Emergency Milk Recall

From the Associated Press 10/25/05 (9:15 AM)

"Flagship Atlanta Dairy has issued a voluntary produce
recall of whole milk.

...a limited amount of whole milk was formulated on
October 22nd with excess Vitamin D and does NOT meet
the dairy's product specifications."

The product recall affects whole milk in the following
brands: Parmalat, Farm Fresh, Wayfield, Piggly Wiggly,
Kirkland and Kinnett."

The milk was distributed to consumers on October 22nd.
Milk purchasers have had four days to drink this tainted
product. Could excess Vitamin D be dangerous to their
health? Consider that Vitamin D is a steroid hormone
when reading the following:

"Vitamin D increases aluminum absorption, and high
aluminum levels in the body may cause an Alzheimer's-
like disease."

Canadian Medical Association Journal,m1992 147(9)

"Consuming as little as 45 micrograms of Vitamin D-3 in
young children has resulted in signs of overdose."
(one quart of milk should contain 10 micrograms)."

Pediatrics, 1963; 31

"Testing of 42 milk samples found only 12% within the
expected range of Vitamin D content...Vitamin D is
toxic in overdose."

New England Journal of Medicine, 1992, 326

If you've been exposed to Flagship Atlanta Dairy's
toxic milk, you can reach the general manager, Ted
Young, at: 404-688-2671 x-421. Should you call, ask
for the number of his attorney and insurance company.

Thousands of people may have been affected. This
might be cause for an enormous lack of class-action
lawsuit.

Dairy Welfare Payments Continue

As a child in primary school, I was taught that the
Russian government subsidized many of their industries.
That was un-American and anti-capitalism. America was
built on opportunities. The same work ethic which made
America strong rewarded those who produced. Those who
failed in business did not get government welfare
checks to continue. They found new jobs or explored new
opportunities.

Communist and Socialist nations existed by the follwing
anti-American philosophy:

"From each according to his ability, to each according to
his need."

Although $1 billion in dairy farm subsidies payments had
previously been eliminated from this year's budget, the
Senate Agricultural Committee this week (October 18, 2005)
passed a measure to again reward dairy farmers with
$1 billion in new subsidy payments.

Where will this money come from?
Taxpayers will not be pleased to know exactly what programs
have been killed to reward dairy farm owners.

Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy helped to negotiate an end to
$1 billion in conservation programs. Global warming?
Who cares? Dioxins in our food? Not a problem. Polluted
streams and oil drilling in the wilderness? Caribou be
damned. Conservation? Let the public be damned.

On November 17,1956, Nikita Khruschev addressed a group of
Western ambassadors and said:

"Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury
you!" We have become the nation with the economic philosophy once
practiced by Soviet Russia.

God bless America. Khruschev's prediction took less than 50 years
to become our sad reality.

Hispanic Dairy Slaves: Overworked & Underpaid

If today's column offends your sense of justice, please
share it with everybody you know. This one is so important
that it has the potential to reward an investigative news
reporter with a Pulitzer Prize in journalism.

It is no secret to most dairy industry insiders that tens of
thousands of illegal Mexicans work on America's dairy farms.
They take low paying jobs that few Americans want, and are
abused by dairy farm owners in a nightmare that began as their
version of "The American Dream."

The October 10, 2005 issue of Hoard's Dairyman (The
National Dairy Farm Magazine, page 659) contains an article
titled: "Hispanic Workers and Dairy Owners Share
Employment Challenges." The article was written by the authors
of Cornell University's survey of Hispanic dairy farm workers
in New York State and includes interviews with 60 dairy farm
owners and 111 Hispanic farm workers. Seventy-five percent of
those Hispanic workers are from Mexico. The other twenty-five
percent are from Honduras. Dairy farm owners listed their
greatest challenge as:

"Language barrier."

Hispanic workers in this pathetic study were not asked whether
they entered the United States illegally. However, the Hispanics
response to their own greatest challenge is, and I kid you not,

"Crossing the Border."

Other Hispanic responses included:

"Language, Lack of Freedom, New Culture, Basic Needs,
Medical/Dental, Prejudice."

Prejudice? Let's begin with American immigration authorities
who look the other way so that Mexicanos can be paid slave
wages to shovel cow manure, get sick from industrial pesticides,
and perform other demeaning tasks that few Americans want.

This past week (October 18, 2005), Michael Chertoff, America's
chief of Homeland Security testified before congress that
the 13 million illegal aliens and immigrants living and
working in the United States should all be returned from
whence they came. According to Chertoff, some 900,000
Mexicans are deported to Mexico each year. After signing
a new $32 billion Homeland Security bill which includes
large increases for patrolling America's borders, President
Bush said, "We're going to get control of our borders and
make America safer for all our citizens."

Does that apply to the tens of thousands (or more) illegal
Mexican dairy farm workers?

In 1994, President Bill Clinton posthumosly awarded the Medal
of Freedom, our nation's greatest honor, to the widow of Cesar
Chavez, farm activist who became best friend to underpaid and
abused migrant fruit and vegetable workers.

During his lifetime, Chavez protested the plight of Mexican
aliens who worked California fields to grow and harvest
America's food. Some 50,000 of his colleagues paid their respects
at Chavez's 1993 funeral service. Through his efforts, which
included nation-wide boycotts of grapes and lettuce, the United
Farm Workers Union was able to negotiate better wages and
living conditions for fruit and vegetable growers.

Where is the Chavez-type activist for America's Mexican dairy
workers? Sadly, there is no such person. Sadder, abused
dairy workers toil in near slavery with little future and
no friends in high places to change their plight. What we need
is a Chavez-style champion, not to mention a boycott of that
industry which abuses so many who deserve so much more. Will
no one champion their plight?

Emma Lazarus wrote these words which are inscribed at the
base of America's Statue of Liberty:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses, yearning to breath free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest tossed,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

America needs a Cesar Chavez-type activist, and the first step
should be a nationwide boycott of milk and dairy products.

Visit any hospital in America and ask:

"How many patients do occupy beds here because of
a protein deficiency?"

The answer you will get is, "Zero."

Hospitals are filled with Americans who have eaten too
much dietary animal protein. It is nearly impossible
to live in America and not satisfy your protein needs.

"The average man in the US eats 175% more protein

The Best Day Ever

If ever you have a chance to meet this man or hear him
speak or read one or more of his books or download his
lectures, you will be touched by near perfection. Is
there such a thing as pure perfection? If so, David
Wolfe is the one person whom I've met during the past
twelve years of doing my Notmilk thing who completely
charms me with the potential for human self-actualization.

I have very few heroes. Howard Lyman is one for inspiring
me to become vegan. John McDougall is a second for his
continuing efforts to bring real science to support the
ongoing debate for the vegan lifestyle. Kimber Gorall is
a third for her 24/7/365 animal rights efforts. And finally,
there is David Wolfe for talking the talk and walking the
walk; for his beautiful glow, perfect body, magnificent
knowledge, and enviable lifestyle.

Get to know the man through his work. If and when I ever
grow up, it is David Wolfe whom I intend to resemble.

Phony Charity Dairy Donation

One thing that I really hate is when someone
or some company donates money to a charitable
cause, then, proceeds to hire a publicist
and spend more money letting the world know
about their charitable deed than the sum of
money which was donated. This is what the
Carnation company is in the process of doing,
and I say shame. Carnation's (Nestle) paid ad
appeared on the October 19, 2005 PR Newswire.

http://tinyurl.com/altu7

So who is the beneficiary of Carnation's
phony generosity? Victims of Katrina? Nope.
Earthquake victims in Pakistan? Not a chance.
Future victims of hurricane Wilma? Uh, uh.

In the best example of chutzpah (look it up)
I've ever seen, the beneficiary of Carnation's
charity was a phony tax-free organization set
up by the dairy industry a few years back
whose hidden agenda it is to promote milk
and dairy consumption.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation

See the investigative column I wrote about
this "front" in May of 1999:

http://www.notmilk.com/deb/052399.html

In their cleverly written press release, Carnation
wastes no opportunity in informing the readers
that they are "one of America's Most Admired Food
Companies."

Perhaps an IRS audit for phony charity write-offs
such as this one will chip away at that myth.
It's easy to fool some of the people some of the
time. These cretins do not fool me, and they should
not fool you either. Their intentions are clear.

Organic Pus is no better than conventional pus.

Scientists in Switzerland have explored the many
so-called benefits of organic milk, and have ended
up with some unexpected results. Their proverbial
chunk of Swiss cheese has been shot full of holes.

This statement was issued by dairy researchers at
Bern University's Faculty of Veterinary Science:

"Organic products are not automatically healthier."

What did doctor Jurg Blum and his colleagues discover
from their eight year study published in October of 2005?

They observed and concluded that organic Swiss milk is
more expensive than the non-organic variety, but that it
also contains "more disease-causing bacteria."

Data from the study indicates that organically raised cows
produce up to 12 per cent less milk than cows which are
treated with antibiotics. Non-tradional supplements
prohibited by organic rules turn cows into less efficient
agricultural units. Sadly, organically raised cows are
less healthier and suffer from increased cases of udder
inflammation and mastitis. The result is that milk from
organically raised milk contains enormous amounts of
bacteria. One major concern of the scientists:

"A risk for consumers is that these germs can end up in
the milk we drink."

Swiss scientists compared the "health, nutrition and
milk yield of 3,000 cows from 270 organic and
conventional herds."

Their final conclusion:

"Organic milk was not any better than conventionally
produced milk."

My conclusion: Whether one drinks organic milk from diseased
cows, or conventional milk from diseased cows, it's still all
us with hormones and glue.

New Number One Dumb Milk Ad

Congratulations to the dairy industry for coming
out with a new number one dumb milk ad. This
week (October 16, 2005), I had written about
this new Got Milk ad which satirizes major league
baseball's steroid scandal. In the ad, a reporter says:

"Home run hitter Dave Laden was pulled from last night's
lineup after testing positive for a performance-enhancing
substance. The substance said to help rebuild muscles and
maintain bone strength was found in the hitter's locker
before game time." The substance turns out to be milk.

That's no surprise to us, as milk is naturally loaded with
powerful steroid hormones.

In the 1970s, Robert De Niro and Jerry Orbach
starred in "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight,"
a Hollywood movie depicting an inept gang of
Mafiosos who seemed to do everything wrong.

The milk marketing campaign is a continuing saga of
episode after episode of poorly chosen pathetic
subjects for milk mustache ads. The dairy industry
is the twenty-first century version of the
"Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight."

Milk Proteins are Rocket Fuel for Existing Cancers

There are hundreds of millions of different proteins in
nature, and only one hormone that is identical between
two species. That powerful growth hormone is insulin-like
growth factor, or IGF-I. When consumed in cow's milk and
other dairy products, IGF-I survives digestion. IGF-I has
been identified as a key factor in the growth of every
human cancer.

An important clue in the cancer equation was published in
the August, 2004 issue of the American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition, Vol. 80, No. 2, 447-452.

Blood serum levels of IGF-I were measured in Danish children
at the Department of Human Nutrition and the Centre for
Advanced Food Studies, The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural
University, Frederiksberg, Denmark, and the Department of
Growth and Reproduction, Copenhagen.

Researchers had previously noted that intake of milk
protein is associated with "greater velocity of linear
growth in childhood." The objective of this study was
to "examine associations between protein intake, serum
insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) concentrations,
and height in healthy children."

Data led the scientists to conclude:

"Milk intake was positively associated with IGF-I
concentrations and height. An increase in milk intake
from 200 to 600 mL/d corresponded to a 30% increase in
circulating IGF-I."

So...the scientists focused entirely upon growth, but
ignored a second and even more importent avenue of
scientific investigation. Hundreds of studies in the
scientific literature have previously established
that IGF-I is a key factor in the proliferation and
growth of every human cancer. See:

http://www.notmilk.com/b.html
http://www.notmilk.com/g.html

Thousands of chemicals and events have been suspected or
identified as being carcinogenic agents. Dioxins. X-rays.
Cigarette smoking. Microwave transmissions. Once you get
cancer, one powerful internally secreted protein growth
hormone can help an existing cancer to grow out of control,
IGF-I.

This powerful growth factor is the only hormone in all
of nature that is identical between two species. The
odds of a perfect match of one hormone's structure
shared by two species is astronomical. Yet, human and
bovine IGF-I are identical. Humans manufacture IGF-I in
their bodies. They drink it in cow's milk. They eat it
in cheese and ice cream.

The consumption of milk and dairy products resulted in
an increase of IGF-I levels by a factor of 30%.

Should not every parent be advised of the danger of
ingesting cow IGF-I for his or her children? Should
every child be equally concerned for parents and
grandparents?

Converting Irony into Absurdity

A new Got Milk ad is satirizing major league baseball's
steroid scandal. In the ad, a newsman reports:

"Home run hitter Dave Laden was pulled from last night's lineup
after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
The substance — said to help rebuild muscles and maintain bone
strength — was found in the hitter's locker before game time."

The substance turns out to be milk.

I've often called dairy farmers drug dealers, because their
milk naturally contains steroid hormones. Every sip of milk
contains estrogen, and much more.

Does estrogen from other mammals work on humans? To answer
that question, one might examine a commonly prescribed drug
given to post-menopausal women to prevent bone loss. Got
Premarin? Those little yellow Premarin pills are actually
extracted from pregnant mares kept chained to stalls in
dairy-like barns. Premarin actually stands for: Pregnant
Mare Urine, and yes, Virginia, body fluids from lactating
horses and cows does contain estrogen and other steroid
hormones.

As a matter of fact, in 1992, endocrinologist Clark
Grosvenor analyzed cow's milk and found:

("Hormones and Growth Factors in Milk,"Endocrine Reviews,
volume 14, number 6, 1992).

PITUITARY HORMONES (PRL, GH, TSH, FSH, LH, ACTH Oxytocin)

STEROID HORMONES (Estradiol, Estriol, Progesterone, Testosterone,
17-Ketosteroids, Corticosterone, Vitamin D)

HYPOTHALAMIC HORMONES (TRH, LHRH, Somatostatin, PRL- inhibiting
factor,PRL-releasing factor, GnRH, GRH)

GASTROINTESTINAL PEPTIDES (Vasoactive intestinal peptide,
Bombesin, Cholecystokinin,Gastrin, Gastrin inhibitory peptide,
Pancreatic peptide,Y peptide, Substance P, Neurotensin)

Many baseball steroid users have discovered to their horror
that the use of steroids shrinks male genitalia. (See "Juicy:
Confessions of a Former Baseball Wife" the new tell-all book
written by Jose Canseco's ex-wife, Jessica.)

So my advice to women: recognize that hormone use can lead to
increases in breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers. See:

http://www.notmilk.com/b.html
http://www.notmilk.com/u.html

And my advice to men: continue to drink milk or eat cheese and
you can ingest steroid hormones too. Like most hormone users,
you might hit an occasional long home run, but more than likely,
you'll end up swinging an ineffective bat while striking out at
the plate with no balls.

Can Soy Cure Cancer?

A reader (Joy from Florida) wrote:

"My dad has been diagnosed with colon
cancer and does not want to have chemo
or radiation. I agree. Is there any real
evidence that the consumption of soy can
cure cancer in humans?"

Dear Joy,

After reviewing the scientific literature, I've
found many rat/soy studies, but I completely reject
animal studies as being worthless. However, one
recently published study in a peer-reviewed scientific
journal brings hope to those seeking alternative
options to the traditional horrors of chemo and
radiation therapies.

"Cancer Letters" is a journal that publishes cancer
research studies. In its own words, the journal
places emphasis on "molecular and cell biology of
cancer, oncogenes, carcinogenesis, radiation biology,
molecular pathology, hormones and cancer, viral oncology,
biology of cancer and metastasis, molecular cytogenetics,
epidemiology; and experimental therapeutics."

The July 8, 2004 issue of Cancer Letters (210(1):1-6)
contains a study performed on human colon cancer cells
suggesting that saponin, a soy isoflavone, reduces the
risk of death by colon cancer. The authors write:

"The results indicate that crude saponin (from soy extract)
decreased cell growth in a dose- and time-dependent manner.
Crude soy saponin extract suppressed the degradation of
IkappaBalpha in PMA-stimulated cells, while COX-2 and PKC
expressions were significantly down-regulated. These findings
support the hypothesis that the soy saponins reduce the risk
of colon tumorigenesis possibly by suppressing inflammatory
responses."

Soybeans naturally contain isoflavones and bioflavinoids
which previous scientific publications have identified
as preventing bone loss, lowering LDL cholesterol levels,
easing symptoms of menopause, and fighting cancers. These
plant substances include genisten, protease inhibitors,
lignans, and saponins. Saponins have been identified as
plant cleansers or detergents. They can commonly be found
in desert plants, such as yucca and aloe vera. Saponons
also have antifungal and antibacterial properties, and
strengthen a plant's immune system. Apparently, they
strengthen the human immune system too.

Beans contain saponins, but no bean has a greater amount
of saponins than soy.

Saponins have been used as ancient Chinese medicine to treat
heart conditions, and for the past 150 years as digitalis
(from the Foxglove plant). Saponins help the heart to expel
fatty plaque-like substances from the cardiovascular system
and in doing so, lower blood serum cholesterol levels.

Discover the joy of soy, and help your father to understand
that foods containing isoflavones such as soy may very well
become his best medicine.

People Say the Darndest Things

A few years ago, I was one of Twenty-seven persons to testify
before the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA)
Dietary Guidelines Committee. These are the people who determine
what foods are placed on USDA's notorious Food Pyramid.

Representatives from a cross-section of America symbolized the
types of pressure and influence, which ultimately guide USDA
decisions. Take note that 11 of the 27 comments (40%) endorse
the consumption of sugar for good health, and oppose limiting
sugar intake.

Here are my favorite comments from each of the 27 presenters:

1) SALT INSTITUTE - Dick Hanneman "We're very disappointed to
have to oppose the dietary guidelines."

2) SUGAR ASSOCIATION - Richard Keelor "All recent reviews of
the scientific literature...have once again exonerated sugars
from having any direct link to chronic disease including obesity."

3) DAIRY EDUCATION BOARD - Robert Cohen's entire testimony:
http://www.hungerstrike.com/usdatest.html

4) PHYSICIANS COMMITTEE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE - Neal Barnard
"There is no scientific reason to insist on the inclusion of cow's
milk in anyone's diet."

5) NATIONAL FOOD PROCESSORS - Regina Hildwine "The modification of
the main message recommending a diet low in saturated fat and
cholesterol and moderate in total fat is well supported by recent
scientific evidence."

6) NATIONAL CONFECTIONERS ASSOCIATION - Larry Graham "There is
little evidence that diets high in total sugars are associated with
obesity...Candy adds to the pleasure of life. Candy consumed in
moderation can be a part of an active and healthy lifestyle."

7) PRODUCE FOUNDATION - Elizabeth Pivonka "Fruits and vegetables
are the rare exception to the less is more rule. In the case of
fruits and vegetables, the more is better."

8) HUMAN NUTRITION INSTITUTE - Suzie Harris "Given that dental
caries in the United States is declining, one cannot conclude a
more restrictive sugar message is warranted...Children like to
drink flavored milks and eat flavored yogurts... "

9) PRODUCE MARKETING ASSOCIATION - Kathy Means "Your advice to
make fruits, vegetables and greens the foundation for healthy
living bears repetition, because Americans are not eating enough
fresh fruits and vegetables."

10) NATIONAL SOFT DRINK FOUNDATION - Richard Adamson "At four
calories per gram, the same caloric density as protein and other
carbohydrates, why would sugars be lampooned for their contribution
to obesity as if there were some unique property to sugars not
shared by other macronutrients?"

11) CENTER FOR SCIENCE IN PUBLIC INTEREST - Michael Jacobson "Drink
your soda pop, eat your candy as your previous speakers have
emphasized, but limit yourself."

12) NATIONAL DAIRY COUNCIL - Suzanne Craig "Calcium-fortified foods
from other food groups should not be included in the milk, yogurt
and cheese group."

13) UNITED FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE ASSN. - Donna Dennis "Fruits
and vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories and provide
essential vitamins and minerals, fiber and other substances
important for good health."

14) SLOAN KETTERING CANCER CENTER - Barbara Levine "Americans are
not drinking enough water. Water, just simple water, is the best
choice for proper hydration."

15) INTERNATIONAL FOOD INFORMATION COUNCIL - Dave Schmidt "Is there
adequate science to justify a shift from moderate sugars to limit
sugars with respect to nutrient adequacy or chronic disease?"

16) NATIONAL FLUID MILK PROCESSORS - Natalie Webb "One group in
particular has been attacking dairy products as inappropriate for
minorities. We urge USDA and HHS not to be swayed by this
unscientific, sensational, and very harmful information."

17) NORTH AMERICAN MILLERS ASSOC. - Betsy Faga "There is no data
available to show that moderate consumption of sugars has any
deleterious effects to consumers, and such a recommendation would
impact foods such as fortified fruit juices and cereals... "

18) NATIONAL CATTLEMAN'S BEEF ASSN. - Mary Young "Advice to use
plant foods as the foundation of meals or to build your eating
pattern on a variety of plant foods...is dietary advice that can
be potentially misinterpreted by consumers."

19) GEORGETOWN UNIV. CTR. FOR FOOD & NUTRITION - Maureen Storey
"There is no scientific evidence that consumption of sugar per se
has a negative effect on health..."

20) NATIONAL COUNCIL ON ALCOHOLISM "We urge you to strengthen the
wording relating to the potential health risks for alcoholics."

21) AMERICAN SUGAR CANE LEAGUE - Dean Grovois "About 420,000 people
in this country work in sugar production...American agriculture is
in a state of crisis...The price of raw sugar has fallen...We are
teetering on the edge of a terrible disaster...Your decision will
have an affect on us."

22) AMERICAN SUGAR BEET GROWERS - Ray Van Driessche "Suggesting a
direct relationship between sugar and obesity is not sound
science...it is hypocrisy."

23) PEOPLE FOR ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS - Miyun Park "The
guidelines should explicitly endorse vegetarianism as a healthy
lifestyle."

24) APPEARING FOR HERSELF - Fran Hissler "A milk-free diet is
recommended. Allergies to food proteins, most commonly cow milk
proteins, has been identified..."

25) GROCERY MANUFACTURERS OF AMERICA - Lisa Katic "GMA strongly
opposes the new recommendation on limiting the intake of sugar..."

26) AMERICAN DIETETIC ASSOCIATION - Elizabeth Johnson "The American
Dietetic Association feels strongly that variety should remain the
cornerstone of the guidelines."

27) CONNECTICUT ELDERLY FOOD PROGRAM - Douglas Buck "I'm not in
favor of being a vegetarian, however, heavy meat eaters would
benefit from eating less. And those who eat less meat have less

could be said in the dietary guidelines about the benefits of
limiting red meat and poultry consumption."

Day of Atonement

Today (Thursday, October 13, 2005) is Yom Kippur,
a day in which Jews throughout the world pause to
meditate and reflect upon past sins. To a Jew,
today's waking thoughts are reserved for personal
reflection and introspection.

Today, I dedicate my column to the scientists who
know that their own work is biased and absurd. Those
who suck dollars from society's altruistic, in order
to continue to perform phony research. Those who
create extraneous variables and bend truths to the
will of their masters. Those who betray the trusting
public for their crimes of deception, and those
who torture and kill aniamls in the name of
science for their absurdities.

Most researchers know that half of the cancers rats
get, mice do not get. They also know that half of
the cancers mice get, rats do not get. Can one then,
fairly apply rodent research to elephants or
dogs or humans? Dairy scientists have been given the
task and have been awarded with enormous grants to
demonstrate that cow's milk for humans is nature's
perfect food. They live in a warped world of
opposites, stretching the credibility of their
colleagues by attempting to counter real science.
On recent example of their ridiculous work is an
effort to convince dieters that milk was designed
for humans to lose weight. Such a defiance of innate
logic is an insult to any individual still immune
from a lifetime of dairy-induced brainwashing.

I can never forgive the scientists who published the
most horrible of studies in the December 2002 issue of
New Scientist. Can they forgive themselves?

http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99993135

These Japanese researchers decapitated the heads
of 12-day-old rats, and implanted them onto the
thighs of adult rodents.

Think of the possibilities for humans! If we perform
this same technique on Americans, in the event of a
nuclear terrorist attack, we'll be able to kiss our
own asses goodbye.

One scientist, Nobufumi Kawai, at the Jichi Medical
School in Tochigi, claims that the grafted heads could
become "excellent models" for investigating brain
function in human infants.

I may be forced to atone for my own selfish fantasy
which involves Dr. Kawai's upper thighs and the
transplanted head of a starving alligator...

The Mother of All Animal Rights Activism

Today, reflect upon four of my favorite animal rights
quotations, two of them written by Ellen G. White,
another by one of history's great physicians, and
the final quote by the winner of the 1978 Nobel Prize
for literature.

Ellen White began writing about animal rights issues
more than 150 years ago. Her wisdom and sensitivity
survive today as inspiration for millions of people
who do not eat animals.

Animal Love

"Animals see and hear and love and fear and suffer. They use
their organs far more faithfully than many human beings use
theirs. They manifest sympathy and tenderness toward their
companions in suffering. Many animals show an affection for
those who have charge of them, far superior to the affection
shown by some of the human race. They form attachments for
man which are not broken without great suffering to them."

{Ellen G. White, Ministry of Healing, page 315}

"I had bought two male chimps from a primate colony in Holland.
They lived next to each other in separate cages for several
months before I used one as a donor. When we put him to sleep
in his cage in preparation for the operation, he chattered and
cried incessantly. We attached no significance to this, but it
must have made a great impression on his companion, for when we
removed the body to the operating room, the other chimp wept
bitterly and was inconsolable for days. The incident made a
deep impression on me. I vowed never again to experiment with
such sensitive creatures."

-Dr. Christian Barnard

Animal Rights

"Animals are often transported long distances and subjected
to great suffering in reaching a market. Taken from the green
pastures, and traveling for weary miles over the hot, dusty
roads, or crowded into filthy cars, feverish and exhausted,
often for many hours deprived of food and water, the poor
creatures are driven to their death, that human beings may
feast on the carcasses."

{Ellen G. White, Ministry of Healing, page 314}

"In his thoughts, Herman spoke a eulogy for the mouse who had
shared a portion of her life with him and who, because of him,
had left this earth. What do they know-all these scholars, all
these philosophers, all the leaders of the world-about such as
you? They have convinced themselves that man, the worst
transgressor of all the species, is the crown of creation.
All other creatures were created merely to provide him with
food, pelts, to be tormented, exterminated. In relation to them,
all people are Nazis; for the animals it is an eternal Treblinka."

-Isaac Bashevis Singer

Subject: Why is Calcium in Cow's Milk?

How do Cow's Get Calcium in their own milk?

Dairy Queen MooLattes? Nope.
Quarts of Ben & Jerry's Ulcerous Udderness? Uh, uh.
Gallon jugs of human breast milk? I don't think so.

Do you wonder why it is that cow's milk contains
so much calcium? After all, cow's don't drink milk.
Where then, do they get their calcium?

The answer is that plants (veggies) are loaded
with calcium. Cows eat plants. Humans should, too.

Human breast milk is the perfect formula for
baby humans. In her wisdom, Mother Nature
included 33 milligrams of calcium in every
100 grams, or 3 1/2-ounce portion, of human
breast milk. At the end of this column are
calcium values for 55 commonly eaten foods.
Compare those calcium values to human
breast milk.

The perfect calcium-rich food is hummus.
Chick peas (150 mg) + sesame seeds (1160 mg)
will yield a food containing ten times as
much calcium as human breast milk.

In order to absorb calcium, the body needs
comparable amounts of another mineral element,
magnesium. Magnesium is the center atom of
chlorophyl. Milk and dairy products contain only
small amounts of magnesium. Without the presence
of magnesium, the body only absorbs 25 percent of
the available dairy calcium content. The remainder
of the calcium spells trouble. Without magnesium,
excess calcium is utilized by the body in injurious
ways. The body uses calcium to build the mortar on
arterial walls which becomes atherosclerotic plaques.
Excess calcium is converted by the kidneys into
painful stones which grow in size like pearls in
oysters, blocking our urinary tracts. Excess calcium
contributes to arthritis; painful calcium buildup
often is manifested as gout.

Osteoporosis is NOT a problem that should be associated
with lack of calcium intake. Osteoporosis results from
calcium loss. The massive amounts of protein in milk
result in a 50 percent loss of calcium in the urine.
In other words, by doubling your protein intake there
will be a loss of 1-1.5 percent in skeletal mass per
year in postmenopausal women.

The calcium contained in leafy green vegetables is more
easily absorbed than the calcium in milk, and plant
proteins do not result in calcium loss the same way as
do animal proteins.

Human breast milk contains 33 milligrams of calcium
per 100-gram portion and potato chips contain 40
milligrams!

Dumb Diabetes News

A review of the current literature (as published by
Medline through November 30, 2005) reveals that there are
594 new scientific studies related to diabetes. Hundreds of
different conclusions and hundreds of different theories.
No wonder there is so much confusion. No person can
keep up with it all. Study number one was published in
the European Journal of Pediatrics (Oct 7;:1-6) and
the researcher's conclusion (and study title) is:

"Absence of breast-feeding is associated with the risk of type
1 diabetes: a case-control study in a population with rapidly
increasing incidence."

Duh!

So, it seems that breastfeeding protects a child from getting
diabetes, while the absence of breastfeeding increases the
incidence of diabetes. The scientists suppose that there is
a "magic substance" in human breast milk that does the trick,
but consider this. If mom selects an option to nurture her own
child other than her own breast milk, what does she select?
Walnut milk? I don't think so. Orange juice? Milk of Magnesia?
Uh, uh. Most moms rely upon milk from dairy cows, and herein
is the problem. Consider this study published in The Lancet
on December 14, 1996:

"Cow's milk proteins are unique in one respect: in industrialized
countries they are the first foreign proteins entering the infant
gut, since most formulations for babies are cow milk-based. The
first pilot stage of our IDD prevention study found that oral
exposure to dairy milk proteins in infancy resulted in both
cellular and immune response...this suggests the possible
importance of the gut immune system to the pathogenesis of IDD."

Four years earlier (July 30, 1992), the New England Journal of
Medicine reported:

"Studies have suggested that bovine serum albumin is the milk
protein responsible for the onset of diabetes... Patients with
insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus produce antibodies to cow
milk proteins that participate in the development of islet
dysfunction... Taken as a whole, our findings suggest that an
active response in patients with IDDM (to the bovine protein)
is a feature of the autoimmune response."

So...when it comes to identifying the etiology of diabetes,
consider that it's not what you eat that becomes the key factor
in protection, but it's what you don't eat that can make the
difference.

Overdosing On Vitamin D

The most toxic vitamin for human ingestion is the
Vitamin D that is added to milk and dairy products.

One of my favorite health book guides (3 million
copies sold, available in health food stores) is:

PRESCRIPTION FOR NUTRITIONAL HEALING,
by James Balch, M.D.

See page 19:

"Toxicity (of Vitamin D) may result from taking
amounts over 65,000 international units over a
period of years."

One quart of milk contains 400 International
Units (IU) of Vitamin D.

Forty-one gallons of milk contain a total
of 65,600 IU of Vitamin D.

The United States Department of Agriculture recommends
a daily dose of Vitamin D equal to 400 International Units.
One would reach 65,000 International Units in less than 6
months by drinking pne quart of milk each day.

Is something wrong here?

This was reported in Canada eight years ago:

"High doses of vitamin D are toxic which may cause
an excess of calcium in the blood. Extreme cases
may lead to death."

(Ontario Breast Cancer Information Exchange Project. Guide to
unconventional cancer therapies. 1st ed. Toronto: Ontario Breast
Cancer Information Exchange Project, 1994:132-133.)

In the Complete Book of Vitamins and Minerals, Albert
McDonald writes:

"Vitamin D is the most toxic of all the vitamins.
As little as 2,000 IU a day - only five times
required amounts can be toxic to children."

Here's a second opinion, listing symptoms of
Vitamin D overdose:

"Vitamin D overdose becomes evident in elevated
blood calcium levels causing symptoms of anorexia,
nausea and vomiting, polyuria [the passage of a large
volume of urine], polydipsia [chronic excessive intake
of water], weakness, pruritus [itching], and
nervousness, potentially with irreversible calcification
of soft tissue in the kidney and liver. As newer, more
highly active forms of vitamin D are developed, it
becomes imperative to monitor even more carefully for
this potential toxicity."

(Spencer JW, Jacobs JJ. Complementary/alternative medicine:
an evidence based approach. Toronto: Mosby, 1999:148.)

Vitamin D is a steroid hormone. We manufacture it in
our skin after exposure to sunlight. Feeding artificial
steroid hormones to our children is a practice that should
be banned.

Soymilk Has More Calcium Than Cow's Milk

I was amazed after making this discovery!

Let's compare commercially prepared soymilk
(in carton containers) and the soymilk you make
fresh in a SoyToy to cow's milk.

http://www.SoyToy.com

All of the data that follow were taken from
USDA's nutrient data base:

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp

CALORIES

One cup of cow's milk contains 149 calories.
One cup of store-bought soymilk contains
81 calories.
One cup of homemade soymilk contains 48 calories.

FAT

One cup of cow's milk contains 8.15 grams of fat.
One cup of store-bought soymilk contains 4.68
grams of fat.
One cup of homemade soymilk contains 2.32 grams
of fat.

*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*
In order to absorb one milligram of calcium, one
needs an equal milligram of magnesium. Therefore,
in examining calcium values of food, one must also
consider the amounts of magnesium in each food sample.
*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*

CALCIUM & MAGNESIUM

One cup of cow's milk contains 290 mg of calcium.
One cup of cow's milk contains 32 mg of magnesium.

One cup of store-bought soymilk contains 10 mg of calcium.
One cup of store-bought soymilk contains 47 mg of magnesium.

One cup of homemade soymilk contains 32 mg of calcium.
One cup of homemade soymilk contains 33 mg of magnesium.

CALCIUM SUMMARY

One absorbs the same amount of calcium from
a glass of homemade soymilk and cow's milk.
You will absorb only one-third the amount of
calcium in store-bought soymilk.

In examining both numbers together (mg of calcium
and mg of magnesium), the lower of the two numbers
becomes the lowest common denominator. Yes, cow's
milk is saturated with calcium, but the low level
of magnesium means that only a small amount of that
dietary calcium is absorbed. Although there are
290 mg of calcium in one cup of cow's milk, the
32 mg of magnesium limit calcium absorption to
a mere 32 mg. Homemade soymilk contains 32 mg
of both calcium and magnesium. Exactly the perfect
proportion!

Commercial soymilk does not.

How can soymilk provide more calcium than cow's milk?

The cow's milk inhibits calcium absorption because it
contains a relatively high amount (when compared to soy)
of sulphur-based amino acids. Animal proteins create an
acid condition in the bloodstream which the body
neutralizes by leeching calcium from the bones. Ingesting
calcium-rich (and protein-rich) milk and dairy products
actually creates a negative calcium balance, and this
becomes not the cure, but the cause of osteoporosis.

In 1994 (volume 139), Epidemiology reported:

"Consumption of dairy products, particularly at age
20 years, were associated with an increased risk of
hip fractures...metabolism of dietary protein causes
increased urinary excretion of calcium."

I made AGAR-gantuan error.

Last week, I published cheese recipes made from soymilk.
In order to produce a firm cheese, I used agar-agar as
a thickening agent. Dr. Dave Hickman DDS hickman@...
wrote to me:

"I love your emails and columns but i think you goofed....
Isn't AGAR a substance made up of Galactose---something you
ranted about in the past??? Search for the chemistry of Agar..."

I did just that, and the doctor is correct. In my ignorance,
I goofed, but each learning experience makes me stronger. Agar
is now on my list of substances to avoid.

GALACTOSE

Milk sugar, lactose, is made up of two other sugars, glucose and
galactose. Although carrageenan is extracted from red moss, its
structure is nearly identical to a milk sugar, galactose. So too
is agar.

The "molecular tree" or molecular structure of a carrageenan
molecule and of an agar molecule happens to be, by great
coincidence, galactose.

Numerous scientific studies suggest a link between milk
consumption and heart disease. See:

http://www.notmilk.com/h.html

The scientific literature is so filled with supportive
references for that conclusion that one wonders why it
is not universally taught in medical schools.

Dr. Gordon's 207 page book, "Milk and Mortality," cites 428
scientific papers, published in the most respected of peer
reviewed journals. His book includes thirteen charts and
illustrations consisting of meticulously prepared data
which link the consumption of galactose and galactose-type
substances to heart disease and other illnesses.

Dr. Gordon's conclusion is that galactose is toxic to the human
system. Galactose in the form of milk sugar, carrageenan,
and agar.

There is little debate as to the toxicity of galactose, and its
etiology in cataract formation. Gordon pieces together parts
of a puzzle that point to galactose as being a key factor in
coronary heart disease as well.

Stupid Breastfeeding Science

Oy, what will the idiot scientists think of next?

In an ever-increasing series of 21st century attacks on
breastfeeding, University of Rochester (New York) scientists
have outdown their notbreastmilk colleagues by determining
that human breast milk causes cavities in human infants.

That was the headline grabber in hundreds of American
newspapers (October 4, 2004) and on television stations.

The study was performed on rats, not humans, and
appears in the October, 2005 issue of the Journal
Pediatrics.

Rats have long pointy sharp teeth.
Breastfeeding human infants do not.

Teeth are Mother Nature's perfectly painful signal that it's
time to wean those cute little human suckers. Just in case mom
continues feeding her own innately sugary high calorie meal to
her little one, Mother nature supplies baby teeth after a
year or so which will fall out in another year or so.

Ever see an infant with rotten teeth?

Ever see a scientist with rotten intentions?
