Eight Maids a-Milking

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight maids a-milking...

How are dairy farmers doing this Christmas season?
With public schools on vacation, demand for milk
is very low...so...

In October, 2008, dairy producers were netting
$18.38 per 100 pounds of milk, $1.74 per pound of
butter, and $1.84 per pound of cheese (based on
40 pound blocks).

On Friday, December 19, 2008, dairy commodities were
trading much lower. Dairymen received just $16.72 per
100 pounds of milk, $1.17 per pound of butter, and
$1.30 per pound of cheese.
