Wise Men Atop Mountains
Last summer, I climbed the tallest mountain in
Bergen County, NJ (where I live), Mount Hackensack.
It had been rumored that a wise man lived atop that
mountain, offering a few simple sentences of brilliant
life-sustaining advice for those seeking truth.
So I set off on my trek.
It took me the better part of a hot summer day to come
face to face with that little old man. During the final
hour of my summit attempt, he did not move, maintaining
his lotus position as he watched me approach. After many
hours of sweating, I stood a few feet from him and asked,
"What is the secret to living a long disease-free life?
What diet should I be following?"
He ten-word response:
"Do as Doug Graham says. Live as Doug Graham does."
After coming down from the mountain, I returned home
and googled this Doug Graham fellow. His website:
http://www.foodnsport.com
There is great wisdom there, and I know in my mind
and heart that Doug Graham is right.
For the past fourteen years, I've been taking a series
of tiny steps, approaching Doug Graham's lifestyle. I
know it to be correct. I am not ready for it in
totality yet...but I am getting close.
