 A bm is a bowel movement.  Seems if he has one 'coming' he can't stay asleep.
As far as crying - can't help you there as my son is a really happy baby and hardly ever cries.
I see you have a doc appointment 2 days after my son's check up - hope all goes well.
 
Oh have you ever tried giving him gas drops?  My oldest daughter had a horrible time with gas and I wouldn't leave the house without the drops when she was a baby.
